Jeep Noise

Yes, I know that Jeeps making odd noises isn't very Earth-shattering, but the wife's Jeep has started a new and hitherto unheard noise. It happens while coasting and braking, not under acceleration. Kind of a clunking or rattling noise, and I can feel it under my feet when I drive it, so I figure left front. My first thought was the transmission, but somehow I don't think so. Maybe suspension, and the weight transfer under acceleration gets rid of it? I got under it and yanked on control arms and such, with no obvious movement.

Thoughts would be welcomed. Thanks.

Hi. I don't believe that we've ever interfaced. My user name is Donger. It's nominal to meet you.

I already stated the model.

I already stated the year.

The mileage is 78,000.

I can't see you rolling around on the ground trying to replace a $150 CV joint, so you might as well take it to a shop. If you want to know a ballpark price go to repairpal.com

Can this be the official Jeep thread because I'm sure I'll have an issue come up again soon with my 95' Grand Cherokee. At 230,000 miles there's always something with that rusty thing. Still gets me around when I need it though.

Oh, I have no intention of doing this myself. I can't even spell it. And even if I could, I wouldn't. I'm not really a "get one's hands messy" type of person. Although I have always wanted to get some of that Lava soap stuff, just to feel rugged.

Automatic as in the amount of power sent to each of the wheels is not determined by the driver?

If so, that is correct.

However, it is technically 4WD regardless of whether or not it's a manual or computer-determined selection.

Yeah, that Lava soap is pretty gritty, hell, it should keep your legs clean for months.

What did I say that was incorrect?

Your help would be and is appreciated, of course.
