*** Official Formula One 2015 Season Thread ***

I realize that many Americans aren't Formula One fans, but I'm hoping that this thread will generate some new interest in this wonderful formula of racing. We've had a United States Grand Prix off and on over the years, but the USGP now has a (hopefully) permanent home at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin.

Here's a primer on the formula:

The FIA Formula One World Championship (also Formula One, or F1) is the highest class of single-seat auto racing that is sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The "formula", designated in the name, refers to a set of rules with which all participants' cars must comply. The F1 season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix (from French, originally meaning great prizes), held throughout the world on purpose-built circuits and public roads. The results of each race are evaluated using a points system to determine two annual World Championships, one for the drivers and one for the constructors. The racing drivers, constructor teams, track officials, organisers, and circuits are required to be holders of valid Super Licences, the highest class of racing licence issued by the FIA.

Formula One cars are the fastest road course racing cars in the world, owing to very high cornering speeds achieved through the generation of large amounts of aerodynamic downforce. Formula One cars race at speeds of up to 360 km/h (220 mph) with engines currently limited in performance to a maximum of 15,000 RPM. The cars are capable of lateral acceleration in excess of five g in corners. The performance of the cars is very dependent on electronics – although traction control and other driving aids have been banned since 2008 – and on aerodynamics, suspension and tyres. The formula has radically evolved and changed through the history of the sport.

And, here's the schedule for the 2015 season:

The following twenty Grands Prix are currently scheduled to take place in 2015.

Round Grand Prix Circuit Date

1 Australian Grand Prix Australia Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit, Melbourne 15 March
2 Malaysian Grand Prix Malaysia Sepang International Circuit, Kuala Lumpur 29 March

The fuel restrictions need to ****ing go though. It's bullshit that they have to conserve fuel during a race.
I can understand the need for the manufacturers to be able to apply F1 technology into their street cars. And I completely agree that fuel restrictions are completely bullshit. F1 will never be "green." Want to see that? Watch Formula E.

As to the "race," I'm actually sorry that I started this thread right now. While I'm always pleased to see Hamilton win and it was good to see Ferrari catching up (bleeech), this was a snoozer.

I missed the race. However, Horner told reporters at the Australian Grand Prix that with their Renault engines, their cars were "undriveable." He estimated that Renault's PU was 100 hp down on Mercedes.

I was hoping that Ricciardo could replicate last season that saw him win a couple of races and compete for the world championship. A shame because there's a good chance he can be a star in F1.

Mercedes current domination will make it difficult for the rest to catch up. Although, Ferrari have made a good step forward and had the faster package. Perhaps Vettel can clinch a few wins.

I would love to see Rosberg win the world championship. Hate the thought of Hamilton winning another world title.

Just my opinion
Yes, I hate Lewis Wahmilton. I want ze German to get it done this year.

I think the races will get better during the year because of the discovery of the homologation loophole. I think 3rd through 6th will be interesting. Mercedes will have the championship wrapped up very early though.

FFS F1 now has more rules than Islam, they even forbid drivers from changing their helmet livery. If you read between the lines of what Red Bull and Ferrari are saying in Autosport, they'll probably pack it in and move to the WEC soon if Bernie doesn't get rid of all the restrictions and go back to normal ICE powered cars.

Zero chance Ferrari leaves F1. They get a portion of the revenues just for participating.

They've also incorporated the hybrid technology into their latest hyper car.

Bernie also wanted to stay with the V8s and has been trying to force a push back to them. The F1 teams haven't been on board with that.

Considering the cars will likely be faster than the old V8s, the new power units aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The fuel conservation/efficiency shit needs to be lifted though. The ICE portion of the power units is being constrained by fuel flow. They could rev a couple thousand RPMs higher (which would increase the volume notably) but the fuel flow restrictions prevent them from being able to run at those RPMs.

Yup, I played on the controller too. The steering wheel guys are faster, but I just couldn't justify buying the wheel just for F1.

I'll probably get one this time around because Forza 6 is supposed to come out this year as well.

Glad F1 finally went to a much simpler V6 with a turbo instead of the way more expensive 10 or 12 cylinder mini engines that cost a lot more. This should, in theory, open the field to teams who don't have billions of dollars behind them

Damn...how did i miss this thread (not to mention the race itself)? Must be too excited about the Ron Parker signing to pay attention to other sports. I'll get properly tuned in for the next race.

Have always loved F1. Looking forward to this thread.
