Breaking: Possibile terrorist incident in Sydney Austrailia



A siege is taking place at a cafe in Sydney's central business district.

Police are advising people to steer clear of the Lindt Chocolate Cafe in Martin Place.

Customers and a workers face were seen pressed up against a shop window inside the cafe.

Martin Place has been shut down and scores of police are surrounding the building after the alarm was raised about 9.45am AEDT.

3.55pm

Police have confirmed three people escaped the Lindt cafe a short time ago.

Deputy Police Commissioner, Specialist Operations, Catherine Burn said the first priority was the wellbeing of the people who escaped, after which police would question them to gain more information about the situation inside the cafe.

3.45pm

There are reports three people have been seen running from the Lindt cafe. Armed police can be seen next to an open fire door, with weapons pointed at the front door of the cafe.

Also, it's a single guy, a "a self-proclaimed sheikh who lives in the city’s western suburbs and has a criminal record" named Man Haron Monis. He's from Iran but has been granted political asylum in Australia, and he's currently out on bail over accessory to murder for his ex-wife. So he has issues.
