Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Which one mfg would you pick and why?

You can't combine an AR15 lower with an AR10 upper. What you can do is have an AR15 lower with a 300 blackout upper.

Good guess, but not quite. It's a glock 42.

regarding hi point, I don't own any because I'm not a trailer park resident. They're heavy, blocky and seem to be the gun one would own only to commit a crime and throw in a river.

I guess for their price, they might be a good "go bag" gun in a vacuum seal bag or something.

The 300 BLK is an awesome round..you can get subsonic rounds and with a suppressor on it sounds just like an air rifle..just a snap is all you hear..sonic rounds aren't really much louder either..very good round out to 300 yards

"Compared to the 6.8×43mm Special Purpose Cartridge, another round made to have increased stopping power over the 5.56 NATO, the 300 Blackout has different capabilities. The 300 BLK was designed with a specific shorter-range focus to have equal or more energy than the 7.62 Soviet and work reliably with suppressors. The earlier 6.8 SPC was simply designed to have more energy at all ranges than the 5.56 mm. It has a relatively small projectile with a high velocity that maintains performance at range. At 200 yd (183 m), the 300 BLK drops 2 in (51 mm) lower than the 6.8 SPC, while it drops 30 in (760 mm) lower at 500 yd (457 m). The 115 gr (7.5 g) 6.8 round has a higher muzzle energy of 1,694 ft·lb (2,297 J) due to its greater velocity, while the 125 gr (8.1 g) 300 BLK round has a muzzle energy of 1,360 ft·lb (1,840 J). Both rounds were made to be used in an easily converted AR-15 platform. The 6.8 SPC has a more difficult conversion because it was designed around the .30 Remington cartridge, requiring a different bolt and decreasing standard magazine capacity. The 300 BLK was made specifically for ease of conversion, so the standard bolt will work and a magazine can be used to its full capacity, so the only change needed is the barrel.[12]

Extreme care should be taken with 300 BLK ammo, as with certain bullet profiles, the round may chamber in a standard .223 or 5.56 AR platform with disastrous results and possible injuries."

From Wiki.....

So all one has to do is change the barrel from 223 to 300 BLK before using?

Yes..the 300 BLK is a 556 case that has had the neck of the case opened up to fit a 30 caliber bullet..so the magazine and bolt is all the same..it was a round designed for the Spec Ops community..gives a reliable hard hitting round that all is needed is a barrel change to work with an AR platform

Yep. So basically you have two different yet complete uppers, one for the 5.56 and one for the 300 blk. All you have to then do is swap the uppers out with the one lower (super easy to do). Same magazine will work for the 5.56 and the 300 blk.

Now, it is a bit costly to have two complete uppers but the swap is so damn easy it's almost too good to be true. I've priced out building a 300 blk upper and it costs up to $1400. The key is getting a good barrel. You may be able to do it for around $1000.

All this talk of 300 Blackout is making me want to jump into that caliber.

I was looking around the net last night and found many 300 Blackout uppers for under $1,000. I think I saw compete AR's for under $1,000. Found an AAC complete upper for $649. I'd post links to stuff I found but I'm at work posting from my iPhone.

Their handguns are fugly, but they always go bang. The old 995 carbine looks pretty good to me, in a 'Buck Rogers' sort of way - YMMV. They had a pretty good rep in the customer service area back when I was paying attention.

There were a zillion of these 995s made - and I never see them for sale on the 2nd hand market any more. Anyone who owns one doesn't want to part with it. No one brags 'Hey, I've got a Hi Point!' but they won't sell their old carbines. Go figure.

I was cruising around on Palmetto State Armory's site, and found something I couldn't resist. Bought a Mossberg 590A1 shotgun for $299.99.

12 gauge
3" chamber
20" barrel
9+1 capacity

Its one of their "daily deals" and probably won't last long. Before today, the cheapest I had seen any 590A1 was around $450, give or take.
