You're right about Bowe.

It would push $11 from Smith to 2016. All guaranteed moneys not earned in 2015 would go to 2016 - that's 3 years of pro-rated signing bonus at 3.6 per; $10.8 million. Plus $4 million from Hali's voidable years.

And that's ALL assuming that the league would allow it and I don't believe it will. The money from a post June 1 cap casualty is not actually available to the team until June 1. The league would essentially have to approve the Chiefs riding with a cap way over the norm and if they were going to do that, they wouldn't make teams wait until June 1 to recapture the cap savings to begin with.

Unless I read it incorrectly, a June 1st cut takes the remaining dead money and cuts it in half and splits it between the current year and the ensuing year.

Alex has 14.4 in total dead money this year so I'm splitting that into 2 payments of 7.2m. his outright cut this year would give us 1.2m in cap savings.

7.2 + 1.2

7.2 next year.

EDIT: Dug a little deeper. They are claiming $3.6 in dead money this year and $10.8M in 2016 - but cutting him and Bowe put us with $90M in space in 2016, even counting Alex's dead money.

Now, they only have 30-something players under contract, but it seems doable.

That's the old rule (the split in half thing).

The new rule puts all money from this year on this year's cap and all money after that on the following year's cap. So this year we'd take $3.6 million of his signing bonus and next year we'd take on the remaining $10.8, presuming the NFL allows us to go over the cap until June 1.

Exactly. That's why Bowe's difference is so massive post June 1.

If we cut him now we only save $5 million because the remaining $9 million all hits the cap at once; the original $14 million - $9 million in accelerate cap yields $5 in savings.

If we post June 1 him, this year's $3 million pro-rated portion hits the cap (freeing up $11 million) and the remaining 2 years at $6 million total are on next year's cap.

I would once again like to thank Dwayne Bowe for getting high and voiding a year of guaranteed salary. We couldn't have done any of this without ya, bud.
