11 seasons later...

I was thinking about this on a drive this morning. In Jan 2013 the Chiefs had just finished up a 2-14 season. The Royals finished the year before 72-90. I may have been committed to a mental facility if I would have predicted to anyone that over the next decade plus 1 year, the Royals would go to 2 World Series, winning 1 and the Chiefs would go to 6 straight AFCCG's, 4 Super Bowls, winning 3 and would start the 2024 season going for the first ever 3-peat. Also, to top it off, the Raiders, Chargers and specifically the Broncos are dumpster fires...

What a great run...

I can now die a happy man as a Chiefs, Royals and Jayhawk fan.

As of 2007 I had never really seen any championships. I was a young man but I followed sports very much throughout my childhood. Then my squads reel off

2008 Kansas Jayhawks National Title
2014 World Series appearance
2015 World Series Champions
2020 Kansas Jayhawks unoffocial National Title
2020 Chiefs Super Bowl Champions
2022 Kansas Jayhawks National Title
2023 Chiefs Super Bowl Champions
2024 Chiefs Super Bowl Champions

The only thing left is for Iowa and the Thunder to figure shit out but I'm ready for the good lord to take me either way. I never could have envisioned this back in 2007.

At my age and being alive for all bad stuff it's so incredibly amazing that the Chiefs have done what they have done. I honestly never thought I would see the Royals win another ring but they did.

That’s not even counting the regular season success (minus the Royals).

A lot of Big 12 and AFC West titles in that mix as well.

At that time, the 2008 KU championship felt like it would be the apex of my sports Fandom for the rest of my life. I learned to accept that the Royals sucked and would probably suck forever, and the Chiefs would never replicate the 2003 season that made me a Chiefs fan.

Never in my wildest dreams could I have predicted what was to come.

No way you'd have been committed to a mental institution. We lap up the snake oil every time we're told how great some player is going to be. We're addicted to hope and it was even worse back then. You would have been celebrated as the herald of glad tidings. If those rosy outcomes had failed to materialize though, then you would have been tarred and feathered.

I wish my father could have lived to see Mahomes. He saw the Chiefs return to relevance with Andy and Alex, but lets face it...we'd kinda seen that movie before. He was kind of a Chiefs fan because of me really. Would have been cool for us to witness that greatness together.
