Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

The situation sucks, but Joeckel IS a really good prospect. He's probably pretty even with Kalil from last year.

I hope he locks down the position for 10 years, frankly I'm tired of dealing with the OL.

I would love it if drafting Joeckel meant no more offensive line headaches barring injury for a long time.

Unfortunately this team still isn't prepared for the possibilit that Jeff Allen and Don Stephenson can't play RT very well, Hudson just doesn't get the knack for playing center, and Asamoah just kind of treads water like he's been doing ever since entering our starting lineup for Brian Waters.

The offensive line is a unit. It can usually recover from a single weak link. MAYBE two. But one great player and 4 meh starters is a terrible offensive line.

There are some diffrent variables, but I literally can not believe they are going to go ahead with the Peeholi Way. At what point do you look at very recent history, even if its NOT your own, and say, "you know what? This looks like a great idea. Let's do it"! I'm truly ****ing stymied that NFL talking heads aren't even discussing this aspect, much less scratching their heads in WTF(?)-bewilderment. Reid has been on a steady decline and Dorsey, JUST LIKE PEEHOLI, is an unproven commodity as a GM. This shit is just unreal. Like Svengali unreal.

Frankly, I don't get some of the OL hate. Every bashes on how bad the coaching was, then doesn't give the players any credit for not playing to potential. Having an above average QB will do wonders for the OL. The 2000 OL was great, but having Trent Green behind them didn't hurt.

I think Stephenson or Allen will lock down the RT spot. I liked Allen in that role to begin with.

I'd really like them to take Barret Jones and move Hudson to LG.

Joeckel
Hudson
Jones
Asamoah
Allen/Stephenson/Schwartz would be pretty nice.

Very true.

I just want them to settle it and let these young guys all gel together. The OL takes time to become comfy with each other.

Why should he? Why...the ****...should he, sir? Why? Because the Chiefs have been so awesome that staying here for "the love of the team" is remotely worthwhile and/or justifiable? Wait! I gotta' better one: because Reid and Dorsey are proven badasses that guarantee a ring to every lucky mother****er that buys in! Yeah! That's the ticket!
