All Things Video Games & Game Reviews

Hey guys...
Thought we could use a thread to help one another out with purchasing new and used games. Now that the next gen consoles are out and the holiday season will soon be upon us, many new games are going to drop. We've been throwing 'reviews' in several different threads or making new threads for each game. I thought we might like to converge and discuss them as a whole. Whether you're on PS3, 360, PS4, XB one or even a wii, PC and Mac, this is a repository for what you're playing and how you rate it.

Let's try to do a 1-10 scale for each game. Take into account the following:

Storyline
Challenge
Replayability
Graphics
Online functionality
Downloadable content
AI/npc's
Price
Length of gameplay

You can use all or some of those as a guide to score the game. If there are other aspects you'd like to tell as about with your game, please do so. These are just suggentions.

Please note what system, (if necessary i.e. It being exclusive to a system) you're playing on and let us know what you think.

1. Sucks, I'd rather watch Brodie Croyle play as our starter. This game is dogshit.
2. Don't waste your time. It's obviously been programmed by a bunch of chimps with syphilis.
3. I'd rather eat tapioca pudding out of my grandmothers colostomy bag, then stick my tongue in her stoma.
4. Meh, there's really better stuff to do, (like waxing my pubes) but I was lazy.
5. This is kinda like purgatory. It's not the best place to be but it could be worse.
6. Not bad at all... It's like I just scored a BJ from my hot first cousin.
7. Entertaining as all hell, kinda like the feeling where you just drank enough not to puke and can still walk.
8. Buy this game, I'm super-cereal. It's got stuff that makes my nipples tingly.
9. HELL F'ing YEAH! I'd talk more about it but I'm gonna be locked in place for a week just playing this ****er.
10. This game is like godfather two and the empire strikes back joined forces to **** your face off with wow. I'm taking all of my PTO days and going on FMLA.

EDIT: We can also discuss upcoming/all things gaming in here as well.
Enjoy!

Yeah there is a part that just kinda stops the main storyline in its tracks. It can take (game) days for you to finally get the phone call to let the main storyline proceed. It is a very odd design choice.

maybe I'll just drive around for a while, and do some side jobs.. I did buy my first 2 businesses. I'm not sure how the stock market works (if at all?) - I mean, I've bought stocks but I rarely see any movement at all on them. the businesses I bought earn something like $3k/week.

I still haven't quite mastered the art of quick save or whatever it's called. I 'think' I read where you can use that to save any game at any time as long as you're not on a mission......I 'think'....

The stock market is only valuable for 3 Franklin side missions, best for the end of the game. There is one random encounter that works too.

I think I know which Franklin missions you mentioned. I think I've done them already - and, based on what I saw online, I didn't capitalize on them like I should have. I saw dudes online showing how to make like $30M using the market. Oh well.

I did read about some other properties that have some side benefits; Los Santos customs (free vehicle repair for Franklin), scrap yard (I guess anytime a car is destroyed in LS, you get $150); the cab company - free/quick rides for Franklin from anywhere.

I think I missed my boat on making big money in the game. so I'll have to make it a little slower. I read somewhere that a 'week' of GTA time is about 5 hours of real-life time. I wonder if I just left my game 'on' while I was away, if my businesses would make money.

The solar dock apparently unlocks the sub, where you can then do a side mission of finding nuclear waste barrels - 30 of them; and each one recovered is like $23k.

After reading a bit online about GTAV....I think I'm finished with the big payday assassination missions. Or, only have like one left. I think I'm just going to start over. Overall I'm nowhere near 100% complete, but I think I played th e big missions too quickly. I have shit for money...

I'm going to pick up GTA V for the PS4 when it comes out. I already beat it on PS3 but I ****ed up some the chances at making money.

The Evil Within - PS4

A year or so ago I was screwing around and checking out upcoming titles when I came across this one. I immediately reserved a copy because the horror genre really hasn't been wowing me lately. I suppose The Last of Us can be classified as a horror title but titles like Resident Evil haven't been worth two shits since the PS2 was still fresh.
From that point on, I paid pretty close attention to this particular game. Checked out all the E3 previews and did a bit of reading on it.
Apparently a fairly big name in horror, Shinji Mikami took this title under his wing and wanted to make something that would make the average player piss themselves.

Well... I got home Tuesday, excited to fire this bitch up and urinate in my boxers. The long, excruciating wait was finally over. It's like when your favorite TV show fires back up after a cliffhanger.
You're immediately greeted by a detective named Sebastian Castellanos on his way to a mass murder at the local asylum. You navigate through the mess of bodies and blood to review the security footage. While watching the murders take place, you pass out. You wake up hours later, hanging upside down in a makeshift human butcher shop staring at a giant dude with a birdcage on his head carving up bodies.
Pretty creepy right? Well, that was about the best part of the game.
After navigating my way out of there, I found out that it was just a dream, (perhaps) and I woke up in an old hospital room, confused and bewildered.
This ended up being the save point area. I saved the game, looked into a mirror, pressed the X button and woke up again. This time back inside the nut house. Back and forth, over and over. Upgrading the boring protagonist. He was so damn stale that I just didn't give to shits about him.
He'd constantly say stupid shit like, "this doesn't look right" or "what's going on?"
It was terrible. The enemy AI was so stupid and highly unfair. Stealth was supposed to be a big part of the game but I found it highly difficult to sneak by the enemy so I'd find a way to dispatch them or run like hell, (until my sprint meter wore out ten feet away). Speaking of unfair, you can kill a zombie with about three or four headshots from your pistol, (or one hit from an axe) then set him on fire with a single match or he'll come back. Really?
Ammo was sparse as hell as well.
I could go on and on about the gameplay/story but I won't. I think some people might enjoy this game but it just wasn't for me. The FPS was terrible, (on the PS4!!!). I mean seriously? WTF?
The graphics were catered for last gen consoles as well so nothing very impressive there. I guess people are getting 15-20 hours of gameplay. I highly recommend you watch a lot of vids on the game before considering it. Broke-tober can be a bitch.
Anyway...
The game might be something you'd like to play but it's just a huge disappointment for me. The scariest part of this game was when I paid 55 bucks for it. I think this one had a lot of potential but the director was really trying too hard to make it what he envisioned.
I give this one a 5 out of 10. It's a very average game that has a shit ton of issues right now. Hopefully they listen to the players and send out some patches soon. Maybe that'll help this snorefest out. A bit of good news, I bitched about it so much that GameStop gave me a new release of my choosing and a pre-owned as well for the same price.
Not too shabby. Lol

Anywho... It's shit. Enjoy!

Ok, I have a question here about Bioshock Infinite -

I have made it through the Hall of Heroes chapter, and way, WAY beyond. But when I boot the game back up, it always has me start over at the beginning of that chapter. Just now, when I finished it (yet again), it didn't show me the title of the new chapter, but said "Return to Hall of Heroes". I did, walked through the entire place with Elizabeth making her bored noises, and found nothing.

Have I done something wrong in that chapter I need to go back and fix, am I missing something, or is the game just bad?

I've only played chapter 1. Like it so far. To each their own I guess. Well see the more I play.

I beat that game quite a few times and I seem to remember getting stuck there for some reason. I highly recommend you pull up a YouTube video of that level.

Tomb Raider (Definitive Edition) PS4

Tomb Raider - The Definitive Edition PS4

I've discovered recently that in extremely rare cases, games live up to their hype. I was introduced to Tomb Raider several years ago on the original Playstation. I remember running like mad from a ****ing dinosaur and telling people, "we've come a long ****ing way from pong and Pac Man. Well, we've come a long ****ing way from the original TR as well.
I picked up this game for my PS3 last year and loved it. I recently traded in that version for the PS4 copy and I'm glad I did.
It's even more detailed. The graphics are some of the best you'll find right now for next gen and the storyline is top notch.
I don't comment much on music in a game but the soundtrack to this one rivals any game I've ever played. Well, except for two... The Last of Us and Assassins Creed, Black Flag.

You are once again playing as Lara Croft... A smart, deadly (smoking hot) cunning girl out to save her friends from an evil cult and zombie Japanese samurai, (I shit you not). You're stranded on an unknown island that causes planes and boats to crash and become shipwrecked when they approach it. (She's really hot, btw) This is because the soul of a Sun Queen, (Freddy Mercury?) is trapped on the island and it's looking for a new host. It's mirroring the Bermuda Triangle legends. This is supposed to be a prequel to all the other TR games. (Still ****ing hot, btw)
The game is basically your classic Tomb Raider but in an open world. You are free to travel the island and complete challenges or you can just play the storyline. You are equipped with a myriad of traditional weapons... AK-47, 9mm semi auto pistol and a shotgun. You're also utilizing a bow and arrow setup as well and the game is centered around this particular weapon. You utilize it to kill enemies, hunt food and as a makeshift grappling hook. You shoot arrows into walls and zip-line around the island. This makes it very quick and convenient to get around.
The story here, (while a little awkward and unbelievable) is still vintage Tomb Raider. There are particular scenes that are gory, yet captivating. One in particular that stands out is when Croft falls into a river of blood and slowly surfaces. A little over to top yes, but still a great scene.
You've shipwrecked on this island and you're trying to get everyone out alive. Of course several crew members get picked off one by one, but you still have to try.
Navigating around the island is very cool. There are several tombs to explore and in true TR fashion, there are several puzzles you interact with in order to access them.
I can't say enough about this game. It's beautiful, challenging and the enemy AI is definitely spot on. They don't walk in a set path like most games AI. They will definitely spot you quickly and send reinforcements to kill your ass without hesitation.
There's really not a whole lot to bitch about. I think the main story is a little shorter than I'd like and the ending was a bit... Goofy?
That's TR for you, though. Paranormal shit goes on in each game. I think the developers, Crystal Dynamics have a definite winner here. It's a shame they sold out a bit by letting Microsoft do the whole "timed exclusive" thing. I know I'm not going to go buy an Xbox just to play one game. If they would make a superior product, (like the PS4) perhaps they wouldn't need to do that.
ANYWAY... I'm rating this one at a 9. If the story was just a bit longer, it'd score a 10, easily. However, not a lot of games out there right now that can compare.
It's a must own on either next gen or previous. Just a great game.

I never played any of the tomb raiders really before this one and never cared for the franchise. It wasn't until a few months ago where I read on here that it was an excellent game and similar to Uncharted.

I checked gamestop and it was 29.99 on a discount, I picked it up and I gotta be honest. It prob has been my favorite ps4 game so far and I've tried them all, it gave me the same feeling as uncharted and I still have it. Never really wanted to trade it in or sell it.
