Boxed wine, what are your thoughts?

Anyone use these adult juice boxes much? Thinking about moving that direction for every-day drinkers and cooking, but would love to hear y'all's experience and suggestions. I've read some of them are pretty decent nowadays.

I've easily done over 50 wine tastings in the past...there is definitely a difference between average, consumer grade and bad-ass wine.

If you drink only to get drunk...then fine wine isn't your tip. Much like drag racing and formula one are two different planets...
You had me until you dissed drag racing. You would have been better off using a "circle burner" comparison where they race on dirt.

Drag racers keep their shit nice, stuff is clean it sure isn't a low end sport.

I used drag racing to illustrate drinking just to get drunk...trying to go as fast as possible in the shortest amount possible.

Drink what you enjoy, whether wine, beer, or whatever. Never understood why people try so hard to judge the personal tastes of others, when taste is specifically so personal.

Well, that’s because you don’t have the sophisticated palate of Black Ops.

OK just making sure she wasn't getting certified in India.

So is she working with it?

My local is "advanced" and puts together 6 and 12 bottle selections every month and markets them to almost all the wine sellers grocery stores too. He gets paid by sale the stores and flat rate w/ bonuses from the distributors.

She works for Jackson Family Vineyards as a wine specialist for their Mountain territory. Good gig...but high pressure sales.

Are they a holding company or a marketing company for wineries with their own wines and vineyards. I am guessing both but just guessing.

Both. They own a ton of vineyards and their founder Jess Jackson was/is one of the biggest names in the Valley. They’ve got a good thing going.

Nice finish. Almost no legs, so that must be over rated, I am going to make it a regular.
You ready to go back and do a taste test against a couple of those 12-15 bottles?

I'll be waiting...

I can sure name some I still prefer, but many more that I don't.

The most current issue for me is it is just too damn easy to over pour. I am used to looking at the level in the bottle to know where I am at.

I finished that box in four evenings.

I meant that you should have compared it to a bottle before you ran out. That's a good test of a box wine...After you've grown a taste for it comparing it.

But It's like olive oil. I can't stand some and other cheaper ones, I love... I always break open a new bottle before I finish the old.

Colavita Premium seems to do me just fine. It's certified Italian, serial numbers and all, if that really means anything, for daily use it's great.

I tried it, liked it, and then the store ran it on sale 34oz for 9.99. I felt like I was stealing.

I bought some box wine because of this thread last weekend. Bota Box Nighthawk. Just a blended red, usually what I'm after anyhow when I'm buying a bottle every now and again.

$19/box at Price Chopper and I really enjoy it. Made a Costco run yesterday and they've got it for $15/box so I grabbed another. This will be the way I buy wine moving forward. For somebody who doesn't want to drink swill but will never be a 'wine guy' and really get into the stuff I can't imagine a much better value than the ol' box.

Looking to get into the box game to limit some of the bottles we are going through in a typical week. Will look into Bota next time we are out!
