Boxed wine, what are your thoughts?

Anyone use these adult juice boxes much? Thinking about moving that direction for every-day drinkers and cooking, but would love to hear y'all's experience and suggestions. I've read some of them are pretty decent nowadays.

To me most of the wines that I call good have nothing than more of the characteristics that I like.
Be it cherries, raspberries, currents, spice. chocolate, or oak or whatever. I don't see anyone talking about those when it comes to the various box wines.

Hemi, It's your first Boca Box Cab. without reading the box or promo materials can you pull 2 distinct charactoristics from the Cab?

That being said other than the 2000's Black Box Reserves, IMHO they all lack strong characteristics that I want in a wine. That rich velvet sensation that makes you take the next sip and try pick up on more of the flavors, to notice the black cherry or the plum, but not get carried away.

I am not a wine snob but I do know when a good wine hits my tongue and box wines just don't get me excited. They uniformly lack character and that's why I haven't bought box wine in years.

They are not bad. I just want that something special e=when I taste a Cab, Merlot, Zin, or my fav. Pinot Noir. I do grab Apothic and Dark Horse blends (sometimes a Pinot) when taking wine for dinners. I don't recall even white wine lovers (AKA Clay) not liking them

Can someone convince me that I should try boxes again or if hitting a major wine seller and stocking up on $10 wines for net $7 a bottle is better.

Has anyone had a Red "on tap" in a bar, restaurant that excited them, you know, made you look at the menu to see what it was you were drinking?

Really enjoying it, so convenient and easy to over pour on my third glass.

The berry flavor in the first glass was a little strong and a tad sweet, but then I am used to letting my bottle sit open for a bit.

Much smoother now with a more mellow flavor, letting it aerate in the glass for a few minutes. I would rate it well above a lot of 12-15 dollar bottles that are very common on the shelf.

Nice finish. Almost no legs, so that must be over rated, I am going to make it a regular.

Anyone make homemade wine? My uncle used to make it and it smelled like vodka with a drop of dye. 12 oz bottle would get you blitzed but you’d feel great the next morning.

I like to keep a couple boxes of From the Tank around for emergency wine. The white is quite good and the red is above average.

Legs on wine is simply an indicator of alcohol content. Meaning wider, slower legs tend to indicate a higher alcohol content.

I’m a huge wine lover...my wife is going for her third level Somm certification. If you guys haven’t seen the following...they are a fun watch for wine fans.

The planet never disappoints, always something to learn. Thanks.

I became exposed to wine while serving my 18 year work sentence in Chicagoland but I am sure not an expert.

Even subscribed to "Wine Spectator" for a while, but didn't ever really study the stuff as this hillbilly doesn't really fit in with that scene.

However their wine ratings were really valuable on picking out some great values.

When Columbia Crest was getting high ratings at $7 ish a bottle, it was my go to by the case.

Lost touch with them now, not sure what happened.

What exactly is a Third level? Is she not "Certified" going to "Advanced"? I don't recall a 3rd level to "Certified"

The people dissing fine wine is strictly out of ignorance. Their experience/palette is limited so they post on what they know. If you eat at Arbys and Taco Bell...you sure as shit arent going to understand nuance and complexity....or grasp why some are food wines and others are made for drinking.

I've easily done over 50 wine tastings in the past...there is definitely a difference between average, consumer grade and bad-ass wine.

If you drink only to get drunk...then fine wine isn't your tip. Much like drag racing and formula one are two different planets...

You’re correct. She is certified; going for her advanced. You also have to pass an introductory course (level one) as well.
