Boxed wine, what are your thoughts?

Anyone use these adult juice boxes much? Thinking about moving that direction for every-day drinkers and cooking, but would love to hear y'all's experience and suggestions. I've read some of them are pretty decent nowadays.

Not much of a wine drinker myself, but my wife is somewhat of a wine connoisseur and she likes Black Box as well as Bota Box. She drinks merlot these days but she also likes cab sav as well as red blends. That bag in a box is equal to 3 bottles of wine.

Bota is 4 bottles/box. Are Black Boxes smaller?

Used to drink a lot of "wine" in the very early days of Saturday Night Live........."Boones Farm"

A bunch of us used to get together in the middle 70s - eat pizza, watch SNL and drink a case of Boones Farm....Never got drunk once on that rot-gut. Tasted pretty good though.....

I drank a good amount of Wine in Germany and France - never developed a taste for it, though. I have always had a love affair with German Beer, though. Not that crap that is imported into the US - the REAL stuff....the 12% Beer...it'll grow hair on your back..

I keep a box of cab in the garage fridge and use it pretty much exclusively for cooking. It's Bota. I use it for most of my red sauces, called for or not.

Oh, you're right. I was thinking 3 liters. Each bottle would be 750ml X 4 equals 3 liters.

5-liter box of wine? It's 6 2/3 bottles but you into wine for your mother in law territory when you get to 5 liter boxes.

Their whites are good, too.

This is my getting drunk wine when you don't want to open a bunch of expensive bottles and they pass the quantity test.

Then we tried a Bota. Bingo! Liked it a lot, and have kept going down the line. We've had the Nighthawk Black Red Blend, Zinfandel and RedVolution. Just picked up the Cabernet but haven't opened it yet.

I think they're very good values for everyday drinking; one box lasts us about two weeks.

I'm not a Robert Parker when it comes to wine, but I'm no rube, either. I can navigate a nice restaurant's wine list, and I buy a very nice, expensive Cab or Bordeaux every Christmas to go with my traditional prime rib dinner at home. So I know a good wine when I drink it. Bota's not plonk.
Things keep changing. First screw on caps instead of corks, now boxed wine is actually not just Gallo swill.

I have read that boxed wine is a new trend for some good wine.

How do you store it for those two weeks?

Do you refrigerate it?

Don't you have one of those little hand vacuum pumps with the special rubber corks? Had mine for years, love it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000DE77D...a-187725992183

The nice thing about those boxed wines is that there is a tap or spout, if you will. It keeps the wine fresh. My wife drinks reds and never refrigerates hers. Of course, hers doesn't last two weeks.
