I only see one glaring hole . Guard. The next closest thing to a hole is DE, and the league is full 3-4 starting DEs that no one has heard of. It's not a make or break spot.

Honestly I'm more upset about not having a 2nd round pick in such a deep draft than I am about the lack of FA activity. This front office has spent money to keep guys here. Now the cap reflects it and they are exercising responsibility. This is the price paid for keeping guys like Flowers, Hali, DJ, Charles, Bowe, etc. We have a shit load of former pro bowlers on the team. Those are guys that cost KC money to keep.
True, but we're also spending a shit ton on marginal guys as well. Though Hali, Bowe, Berry and Flowers are killing us. We have a third of our cap tied up in 4 guys.

DeVito - $5M

Fasano - $4.2M

Daniel - $3.4M

Anyone here rather have these three, or the $12.6M we're on the hook for this year?

Yeah, I don't agree with PFF on that one.

Listen, he's a nice piece on the DL, but not $5M nice - especially when you're up against the cap.

We'll likely get more production out of Walker who carries a $1.7M hit.

Agree on both points.

My problem is I'm not sure I want to see Houston walk next year because we tried to plug every gap this year.

I'm OK with standing pat at FS. We have too much money in defense as it is, and I'm not convinced that FS in this scheme has to be all pro to work.

Would I have liked DeSean Jackson for that contract? Yes. Would I rather pay him than Chase Daniel and Fasano (and probably Bowe too)? Yes. But we are on the hook for those guys because last year the FO had to fill holes and try to field a competitive team.

The reality is, the team isn't sitting on a ton of dead money or outright terrible contracts. They also aren't sitting on buckets of cash/cap space. From a cap perspective, they've done a pretty solid job. The team is suffering from performance more than talent.

I can sleep with DeVito's salary... And maybe Fasano.

Any other team willing to pay Daniel over vet minimum might be as dumb as KC's FO.

As a run stuffer, yes. But he offers very little as a pass rusher.

Agree.

It's not a problem that we are paying those guys that, if they play to that contract.

If they do that, said holes shouldn't be as big I holes

I would rather not have the three. Though at this point, other than Daniel, Fasano and DeVito at least fill a need until Catapano and Kelce can take over. I was not a fan of how they handled last year. If you're going to stopgap, bring in someone really cheap. If you're going to spend money, go big or go home.

5 mil for a guy that gets zero sacks in a pass happy league in a division with two good passing QBs.

Chiefs Way to stop the run in 2014 with blue chip DL that cant rush the passer and thumper 34 ILBers that cant cover anything. Fart noise.

I would hope that McGrath and Kelce improve and Fasano becomes expendable. Hopefully they draft an ilb or nico Johnson improves and Mays becomes quality depth. If Catapano improves, hopefully DeVito becomes expendable. Maybe the reason the chiefs were okay setting Schwartz free is they saw something they really liked out of a young guard. This is the right way to do things. Use the draft to get rid of your marginal veterans.

No disrespect intended but do you know anything about micro-surgery? If you did, you would not even mention Kelce. Have you ever seen Mays play? He is certainly not quality. He's just the opposite. He plays dirty because he gets outplayed. Ill say this about your take, nobody can ever accuse you of not having hope.

I forgot where but I remember reading that his injury was not career threatening and was something that people are typically able to come back fine from. I'll try to find the article.

And I've said I've never been a big fan of that approach. But that being said, these guys are locked into easy contracts to get out of. Mays, in particular, has an ideal stopgap contract.

I'm a little more okay with these kinds of signings if you're proactively using the draft to ultimately replace them. At least for Fasano, we drafted two options to replace him. For Devito, we are grooming Catapano. That's a little different than the move for Alex Smith, which was purely a move to fill the QB position for some time.
