The Royals and the All-Star Game - What's Your Stance?

In the spirit of All-Star voting, how about voting in this too?

They want to falsely inflate the numbers so they can tout how popular baseball is.

Hey look! Mike trout got 5 million* votes! (divide by 35 - he only got 142,000 votes)

Despite the substantial wave of votes for Royals players in the AL All-Star lineup, MLB Advanced Media CEO Bob Bowman said last week that the ballots were still being submitted legitimately. Over a week later, Bowman admitted that approximately 60 million fraudulent ballots had to be wiped from the record.

Bowman told Ken Rosenthal that every vote was normal on June 10:

Alas, that MLB official – Bob Bowman, president for business and media – assured me there were no irregularities, no improprieties, no impish teenagers in the KC metropolitan area creating phony e-mail addresses and voting up to 35 times for every Royal but Amos Otis.

“No,” Bowman said sternly. “We check on it. We look for programs. We look at IP addresses. We do all that. I would say over the last 12 to 15 years we’ve seen isolated instances (of tampering), more in the Final Man vote than in the All-Star vote. But if we see efforts like that, we always disallow it.”

However, circumstances had apparently changed when Jeff Passan talked to Bowman Thursday, though Bowman didn’t specify that the fake votes were all from Royals fans:

“I’m not saying we bat 1.000,” Bowman said. “But it’s between 60 and 65 million votes that have been canceled. We don’t really trumpet it because if someone thinks they’re getting away with it, they’ll try to again.”

The official Deadspin pro-anarchy stance remains, because the game’s ridiculous already. Go Omar Infante!

I dont think the commissioner should be able to change anything except how voting works next year. I will be really upset if baseball changes the lineup.

I don't think for a single minute Hosmer / Infante or Morales are going to win the fan vote. I mean, they might legitimately win it, but baseball will step in and falsify the votes at the last minute to save face. Come on. Do you guys really think the Cavs won the LeBron lottery in 2003. The Bulls won the Rose lottery?

MLB isn't going to let 8 Royals start an all-star game.

The funny thing is; everytime baseball does something like this (cancels 60 million votes) and publicizes it or someone from a major national news organization writes a scathing article or diatribe directed at the Royals and the 'process', it just encourages more people (not JUST Royals fans) to get on-line and vote for the Royals in an attempt to 'stick it' to the establishment. MLB and national news organizations have mobilized fan voting in a way the Royals never could have dreamed of.

The whole thing really is completely hilarious and we probably will end up seeing 7 to 8 staters wearing Royals uniforms in the All-Star game.

I've read several stories about how privately, off the record, the guys in MLB are just loving this. Sure, they'll probably fix it next year and figure out a way to keep this from happening again, maybe by giving the fans vote a 50% weight against other factors, but in 2015 they have no intention whatsoever to step in and interfere with the all-star vote because they are getting unbelievable coverage and publicity for their all-star game right when the NBA and NHL finals were going on and they normally have to take a back seat in the national conversation and attention.

that's what Cowherd was saying on air the other day

no one gives a rap about the ASG but the Royals have turned it into THE STORY TO COVER right now during the DEADEST TIME OF THE YEAR for sports

so all of you guys that always complain about the Chiefs/Royals never getting any media love ... or media hype ... or media hate ...

enjoy the next month

because it's going to be all Royals talk

I believe that if Hosmer and Infante are both at the top at the final voting update, then barring injury we will see both of them in the starting lineup.

I also believe that if Rios and Gordon miraculously takes down Trout, then the starting lineup will be 8 Royals and some other AL team's pitcher batting 9th.

You're right. I had no intention on casting a single vote until the hate spewed out ... and then I cast my 35 votes ... all Royals ... even Infante (whom I hate).

All-Stars games use DH's, regardless of AL or NL park. No pitchers will be batting.

I know of myself and at least four other Royals diehards that haven't even voted. If I were to do so I couldn't vote Infante or Rios, other than that I'd have no problem voting the rest.

I think one thing being overlooked(and maybe already discussed here)is that the Royals have no less than five states they can call fanbases based on their central location and those other states having no team,so that in itself could be a huge amount of votes as well.

MLB says it has canceled as many as 65 million All-Star ballots
Jason Foster @ByJasonFoster Email RSS

Major League Baseball has canceled as many as 65 million All-Star ballots this season over concerns of improper voting.

Bob Bowman, CEO of MLB Advanced Media, told Yahoo! Sports it scrubbed the votes because of the possibility of fraud.
