Stephen King's next...

This seems odd. Which for King is saying something.
Quote:
11/22/63

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas,
President Kennedy died, and the world changed.

If you had the chance to change history, would you?
Would the consequences be worth it?

Jake Epping is a thirty-five-year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching adults in the GED program. He receives an essay from one of the students—a gruesome, harrowing first person story about the night 50 years ago when Harry Dunning’s father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a hammer. Harry escaped with a smashed leg, as evidenced by his crooked walk.

Not much later, Jake’s friend Al, who runs the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to 1958. He enlists Jake on an insane—and insanely possible—mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson and his new world of Elvis and JFK, of big American cars and sock hops, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake’s life—a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time.

Everything he wrote up until Misery (1987) was great. After that, I tried to read The Tommyknockers and fought my way through it, not enjoying it. That was pretty much the last King stuff I read. He's like the bitch who writes the "Garfield" comics: he should've stopped about 20 years ago, when it stopped being about making a good product and started being about making money.

I just finished it. And I have to say he really, really stuck the landing in a way I don't think he has in years, if ever. I think this is my new favorite Stephen King book.

It's hard to describe what it is. It's not horror, although there are some horrific moments, but it's not what you'd generally expect when you hear the name Stephen King. It's alternate history mixed with science fiction mixed with romance (hell, the romance may be the biggest part of it all), and he handles all of it exceptionally well. I found it to be a very good read (or, well, listen, in my case) and an extremely moving novel at times.

BANGOR, Maine — Horror author Stephen King's efforts to raise money to help low-income Maine residents pay their heating oil bills this winter have exceeded goals.

King announced last month that his foundation would match up to $70,000 if listeners of the three Bangor-area radio stations he owns donated that amount, for a total of $140,000.

Listeners donated $24,000, the Lerner Foundation pitched in $46,000 and the foundation kept its promise.

On-air personality Pat LaMarche says an anonymous Californian then promised another $50,000, if King matched it. The Maine native agreed, bringing the total to over $240,000.

King tells the Bangor Daily News he's "grateful" to everybody who helped.

The federal government told the state it should expect $23 million in heating oil assistance this winter, down from $55.6 million last winter.

Stellar novel. I'm not sure if it's my absolute favorite King novel, but it's top 5 easily. Maybe even top 3.

And, yeah, the ending is perfect. Big fan.

I'm about 60 pages in and I'm in awe. I have read every SK book, short story, etc... I've really struggled with some. last one I read was Under The Dome and it is TERRIBLE. so bad in fact that I've sat on this book for a while not really interested in starting it. wow. this is good stuff.

I listened to the audiobook and it was fantastic. They guy reading it did an incredible job. I'm a big Stephen King fan, but I've got to say, I'm really growing tired of him injecting his politics into his books. Republicans BAD! Democrats AWESOME! It's getting tiresome.

One of my top three SK books of all time.
1. The Stand
2. IT
3. 11-22-63

Loved this damned book and I'm really looking forward to the mini series.

I read it then I listened to the audiobook as well and the guy that did it was just wonderful. Very rare to find a narrator that can actually paint the picture via written word but he did so. If you all haven't read it, give the A-Book a try. You might be able to find it on YT for free. If not, well worth the iTunes asking price.
