Would you trade Alex Smith for Colin Kaepernick straight up?

I would not. Alex is a better quarterback right now and does not have the off field incidents of Kaepernick

This is EXACTLY like 1998.

Many people felt like Gannon was the superior QB but Grbac was the starter. Gannon ultimately lost the job and went to the Raiders.

How many people from the old star BB became Raiders fans because of that? Exactly.

That's why I said 'THEY FELT'

The 49ers fans who continue to follow Smith have unambiguous, non-subjective opinions on that matter.

Be honest, would you have phrased the dynamics in the racial terms I proposed earlier? If not, why not? It's equally factual.

Oh, fer****ssake. How many NFL Conference championships has Daniel led a team to and started? How many times was he leading the league in passer rating when he went down for the team and the coach dropped him anyways?

That you would even compare Smith to Daniel tells me not only are you trying to neg Smith despite your 'glowing statements, you are being blatantly dishonest here in denying it.

Speaking of Denise. Jesus.

If you have to put it up with it too, I wouldn't expect you to just let it slide. You don't have even the slightest inclination to stick up for yourself?

Because him being the backup QB was part of my point. It's just like the Gannon situation. The "backup QB" status is absolutely relevant to the point.

Hypothetically, lets say the Chiefs draft Aaron Murray.

Alex Smith starts next year much like he did last year and then, about halfway through, starts playing again like he did the end of this last year.

In 2015, Alex Smith comes out of the gate playing better but for whatever reason Andy Reid benches him in favor of Murray. At the end of the season, Andy Reid trades Alex Smith to the Vikings.

How many Chiefs fans here (that didn't come here because of Alex Smith) are going to move on to a Vikings message board and start rooting for the Vikings?

I would venture to guess that the vast majority of the Chiefs fans here would START ROOTING FOR AARON MURRAY, including the people that are currently overwhelmingly positive about Alex Smith. They're not going to follow a backup QB to another team, they're going to get on board with the current starter.

EDIT: They're going to TRUST Andy Reid, just like their telling everybody else right now...

JFC.

Chase Daniel is the backup QB.

When he was traded, Alex Smith was the backup QB.

The only reason you see some kind of dis in that is because you're looking for it.

He did, he let his ego override his brain... but so that I don't sound like some CP know it all, I thought he'd made the right decision at the time.

"Kap is just sooo much more dynamic... younger, faster, bigger arm!"

But having the benefit of hindsight, its starting to look like Kap not only has questionable ethics, but that he may not be capable of growing past his initial success... take away his first read and mush rush him, that's a tactic that worked almost all of last year.

But you felt compelled to include it, which is the point of this discussion.

They like Smith. Smith was their 1.1 pick in the draft. Smith suffered on a shit team. Later, Smith took them to the NFCC. Smith was leading the league at QB when he went down for the team. Smith is gone. That to you is 'following a backup QB,' like Chase Daniel when he's dumped.

That's not a value neutral assessment.

What?

I felt compelled to include because it's relevant to my point.

Did you even bother to read the rest of the post or does it not fit your agenda?

No it's not a value neutral assessment. But it's not an assessment of ALEX SMITH. It's an assessment of those fans.

I'll ask you again. If they Chiefs promote Tyler Bray and trade Alex Smith, are you going to follow Alex Smith to his new team?

Brandon Weedon was Hoyer's backup, Steve Young was Joe Montana's backup. If you see any dis in me saying Steve Young was the previous generation's Brandon Weedon, that's only because you're looking for it.

If he takes us to the AFC Championship in 2014, and is leading the league at QB mid 2015 when our line lets him gets concussed again, you're damned tootin' I'll be interested in how he performed elsewhere. I'm already intrigued at how McCown will do in TB and a little pissed at Chicago right now.

The 49ers have twice fallen short of legit SB champ potential, squarely on the shoulders of QB failure. Meanwhile Smith has fallen short as well with two different team, but for reasons all around him BUT him. That is a legit test of loyalties, not a whim change of loyalties to follow a completely untested scrub backup.
