Unreal Estate Game: Colorado
Assume that you idly buy a state lottery ticket while getting a doughnut at 7/11, and voila! You're a winner! You win your choice of one the five houses that will be shown.
I'll give you five houses in a state, and you vote on the house you would take. Background rules: Assume that your job situation won't need to change - you can find an identical job or work from home or whatever, so jobs don't matter. Consider the house itself and the location and anything else that's important to you (schools, restaurants, lot size, etc.). Feel free to do a google map search to check out the neighborhood and the area. You cannot sell the home. You can live in it as long as you like, but when you move out, it reverts back to the state as a prize for a future winner. All houses will generally be in the $900,000 to $1 million price range. All maintenance and utilities and taxes are cost-neutral compared to your current home. If you wouldn't move into any of these homes, you can instead accept a cash prize of $50,000 (tax free). Today's state is Colorado. Here are your five houses: Breckenridge - http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...8-51341#photo0 Denver - http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...6-77322#photo0 Fort Collins - http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...ex=CO600151944 Idaho Springs - http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...2_M23211-28416 Telluride - http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...0-91349#photo0 |

I'm going to hold my comments a bit so I don't bias anyone right off the bat.

Fort Collins. My votes are always based on the home and property alone. I don't have time to take into consideration exact location to stores, cities, etc. Nice house, enough room, lake front.

I live in Denver. Denver, Breck, or Telluride all the way...
If I had to pick just one....probably Breck. Telluride is beautiful but hard to get to. |

Probably either Breckenridge or Fort Collins. I hear Breckenridge is a ton of fun to live in.
The one thing I've noticed throughout these threads is if I were to actually purchase any of these places, I'd be in for a ton of interior decorating renovations. Let's just say the tastes in a majority of these houses are "eclectic" to say the least. For me, anyway. |

Now watch - the one in Denver will actually be Rain Man's place up for sale and nobody will vote for it, lol.

I'd happily take any of them. I might choose Fort Collins, simply based on the fact the Fort Collins is objectively one of the best places on the planet.

Is it legal at any of these locations to murder people wearing Elway or VonDouche jerseys?
Could really tip the scales for me.

I'd have to say Idaho Springs followed by Telluride. I really like the Telluride house but its like an expanded townhome, so no thanks.

Other than the one house in West Virginia Fort Collins is the worst decorated house so far. It would need a gut rehab for me to move in there.

My rankings:
Denver - Bowser was almost right. This isn't my house, but it's only about three blocks away. I think the house is okay, nothing fantastic, but the neighborhood here is pretty ideal. You can walk anywhere you need to go, and we don't get a million feet of snow to shovel every year. I like great views, but I love walking to restaurants and shopping. Breckenridge - I think that Breckenridge place is a really good deal. It's in a good location, is nice-sized, and seems like a nice unit. Can we get ten of us to go in together and buy it? In the big picture, though, the mountain towns are great to visit, but they get a lot of snow. And by "a lot", I mean we're measuring in feet, not inches. That's not fun to live in. It's not terribly far from Denver, which is an advantage, so this one almost edges out Denver. Fort Collins - Nice house with a stylin' interior, near water, but it doesn't excite me that much. The location is tolerable because you can get to old town Fort Collins, but it's not really convenient. At least it's not in the mountains, though, and Fort Collins is a very pleasant college town. Idaho Springs - Love the house, and Idaho Springs is relatively convenient to Denver for a mountain town since it's on the east side of the continental divide. But man, that's just too much snow. If there was less snow, this would move above Fort Collins. Telluride - Lovely unit, and Telluride is one of the most beautiful places on earth. But you're not going anywhere else if you live there. It's about as remote as you can get in the west. And you're living in a relatively small (though, acceptably sized) place when you get cabin fever. Again, lovely place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

Its a weird mix of knotty pine and horrid decoration. If it was empty maybe it wouldn't present so poorly. The shower / tub is interesting but not my style. I like more contemporary and open.
