Mellencamp is second rate. If Bruce's only released work had been Nebraska and then retired, he'd still be head and shoulders better.

What If I Came Knockin jams...Kenny Aranoff's drums just off the charts
The Full Castrophe just kicks ass. Just Another Day Large World Turning Women Seem Cuttin Heads If I Die Sudden Human Wheels ....musical scope is broad. Last edited by stevieray; 05-29-2015 at 09:25 PM.. |

But sure, Bruce always had more complicated arrangements with the E Street Band and whoever else... but JCM has been around just as long with a bluesier, rawer and just as socially conscious sound as The Boss. Pink Houses... huge hit Rain on the Scarecrow... yet another in a long line of socially conscious hits. Springsteen seems to have the greater respect overall, but for my money JCM is a rocking little SOB, and he has plenty to say about the state of things... and its probably even more relateable to Midwest Americans than The Boss and his take. |

Born to Run was my Favorite Boss Album and Jungleland may be my favorite song by Bruce.

I like and listen to both, but my vote goes to the Boss. The guy isn't afraid to do covers and sings with anyone and everyone. I think him and the E Street Band know every song released in the last 50 years.
20 Grammys vs 1 for Mellencamp, plus one Oscar. He also made Rolling Stones top 100 guitarist.

Both are huge jokes but I can accept mellencamp as more genuine than phony ass "boss" springsting hippy dude. He's a weird jewish hippy jerk off from new jersey that writes songs my five year old son could probably compose on my mac. Mellencamp sucked but I could at least respect his van morrison roots.

Scarecrow remains one of my favorite albums ever. Don't listen to much Springsteen.

Like that takes extreme concenration and talent. He's probably operating at high levels of baroque new jersey artistry. |
