Just call them up and ask why the installer didn’t make it out to hook your fiber up last weekend. They might get confused and send someone

Will have mixed results. I think major providers are trying to abandon hardwire broadband expansion.

I have no idea if this applies to your situation or not but it’s entirely possible that the fiber by your house is “long haul” meaning it can’t be used for things like residential internet. It’s pretty tightly regulated and segregated unfortunately, it’s not as simple as tapping into the closest fiber.

Well if it’s long haul fiber or “feeder” network (for stuff like cellular towers) the guys you’re talking to might not even be able to see that it exists. In many cases, all of the local and long distance fiber and provisioning systems are completely separate, including the people that run them.

It costs a shit ton of money to deal with stupid city council's to get approved to even build out the infrastructure than actually install a bunch of cable underground.
Than you have to deal with every shitbird that whines about their yards getting tore up. Not worth it when 90% of your customer base doesn't even know what the **** a ms stands for, so they'd rather sell you wireless at a much better profit margin. Best way is to find a field tech around your neighborhood and ask them directly. If they don't know, nobody does. |

There's a lot of good information and some not so good in this thread. As a retired Southwestern Bell Communications employee (the company that bought AT&T) and one who engineered fiber networks for 17 years, let me state a couple of things.
Fiber is relatively cheap, so even if the fiber in front of your house carries long haul traffic, it's probably not just a few strands. You can't just get them to dig it up and run it to your house. The cost is in the electronics and those costs are significant. You say your neighbor had a network installed specifically for him. I'll tell you that's highly unlikely unless he's a person of great importance or paid those massive costs out of his own pocket. Most likely that network was laid out in anticipation of further development in the area. The right-of -way in your development may not be secured. AT&T Internet and AT&T local service are separate entities and are not regulated the same way. The internet people must contract with the local company for service. Finally, AT&T is NOT a good company at the top. Ask any employee, active or retired, and they will tell you so. Outsourcing and failure to provide adequate training to employees has driven the best communications company in the world to one that is just average today. Your best bet is to contact your PUC and ask them for help. Most likely they won't be able to leverage the internet company into providing you service, but they might be able to provide you with a name and number of someone not in Pakistan that can give you a straight answer. The other thought I have is to contact your local media and ask them for help. Randall Stephenson, the CEO of AT&T, doesn't like media attention. |

He’s a big real estate agent and has it to his house. I know that for sure.
I just don’t know who to get in touch with about it. He was useless |

We’ve never run fiber for one building, unless it’s a business. We run the flexnap fiber though a neighborhood/subdivision so that it will be ready for the entire area, not just one home. It’s possible that he could have had a 24 fiber buried or placed into a conduit where it ties into a manhole or aerial splice on a pole nearby, but he would have had to pay through the nose for it. I honestly have never seen it done in a residential area and I don’t even know if that’s something you would have to get a permit for.

I don't have much to tell you but at my house I have AT&T. The absolute fastest I can get is 50 mbps, which is kind of shitty. But I have no idea why I would really need more than 50 mbps. As long as I can stream 4k video, that is all I need.
My dad lives in the country though and he has to get Century Link, can't get more than 1.5 mpbs and it ****ing sucks. AT&T has told them for about 7 years they were close to providing service for his area, but still no dice. They don't even really live in the deep country either, it's very strange. A little off topic, but Would like to hear opinions of those in KC and Johnson County to see what the cheapest stand alone internet is at about 40mbps+. I'm going to cut the cord and go to Direct TV now. They finally have enough channels that I think I'll be happy. All I can find is Spectrum ATT Google Fiber They all seem to be around $45-$55.
