My rankings:

Metairie - Man oh man, I like this house. Cool design, nice big windows, and I like that library. It's right across an open area from a great running trail, and you can walk to some restaurants without a lot of trouble, even if it's not a really diverse array. This is pretty much what I'm looking for in a house.

New Orleans - It's the ultimate walkable neighborhood, and you presumably get to see drunk topless women for much of February. But the house is at the lower end of my size requirements and has a weird layout. I figure the drunk toplessness would lose its thrill after a while. But it's hard to beat the French Quarter as a location.

Slidell - If you haven't mapped this place, put it up on a map. That's pretty cool. It's a great mansion-type house and there are a smattering of services within walking distance. There are some big natural areas nearby too, but I don't think you could go out in them since I bet they're swamps. This place is oddly tempting to me, but I'd feel kind of trapped in the house given the lack of outdoor walking spaces.

Carencro - I really like those decals or tile or whatever those designs are on the floors. The house has some nice interior spaces, and Photos 36 and 37 appear to highlight the ultimate man cave in a different part of the house's village. Very intriguing, and it's very convenient to a few restaurant and a grocery store. I'm not really sure how I would use the space, but it's interesting.

Bossier City - It's really fancy, almost like a Qatari sheikh would live there or something. I find the hunting stand intriguing in Photo 17, and that's a really fancy bathtub. The shower is also completely in front of a large picture window that's presumably in a protected courtyard or something. I find the house quite interesting, but I'm realizing that I don't like tile flooring throughout a house. I'd rather have wood or carpet. The suburban location isn't terrible, but not great, and it's pretty close to an interstate.

Housing prices apparently aren't high enough there, believe it or not.

I've lived in New Orleans and love the city but I could not live in the French Quarter. It's a dirty, nasty place full of drunken tourists and has become increasingly violent. I'd live Uptown by the Universities.

I very strongly pondered that one instead. Plus, it looks like it's close to the trolley so you can easily access drunken toplessness if you want. In the end, I thought it would be good to test the full French Quarter experience, though.

What do you think of the Metairie house? What's that town like?

Metairie isn't bad. It's close enough to everything that's fun in NOLA and tends to be safer. It's a little too white toast for me though. I like that house though.

Metairie and Slidell are neck and neck. Slidell gets the nod probably because of that sweet ass pool and hot tub.

Of course, I'd have to walk around in some type of haz-mat type of suit that constantly blew A/C on me and protected me from the 'skeeters.
