Hey man! This is just a NFT and I wanted your professional opinion as our resident guitarist! So of the following guitarists, playing Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" SOLO Which artist strikes YOU the most! Thought this would be FUN!

As a guitarist, one of the most difficult and rewarding things I've ever done is three different theatrical runs of 'The Wall'. Though I'd been a fan of Floyd and of that record since I was a kid, I did not realize just how orchestrated the guitar parts are. Almost every phrase appears in different form in different songs throughout, and the only unique appearances of any phrase serve as bridges to those phrases. If that makes any sense.

I spent about 6 weeks, a couple hours a day, working through that record to get it note for note once I realized that there was no improvising anything. It's just a towering work, it really is.

The other thing that was incredibly difficult is copping Gilmour's utterly unhurried delivery. The man plays SO FAR on the back of the beat he's almost late; but that's what makes you hang on every note. The tension and release he creates is just amazing.

I've gotten to do quite a few really cool things as a musician; toured in Europe, toured the states more times than I can remember, been a sideman for a lot of my heroes, but if you told 14 year old Chris Meck he'd get to play the Comfortably Numb solo(s) and nail 'em in front of standing room only audiences multiple times-well, that would have been enough to make it all worthwhile right there. As lame as that might seem, tapping into that controlled fury and feeling room packed full of people just freaking out...well, that's what music is all about, at it's highest level.

All of these kids do a nice job, by the way. But Gilmour's really all about the TONE, and the PHRASING, and it's really hard to nail that emotional content, that controlled fury. So the two guys there have it closest; the first guy wins on the 'not rushing' front. Second guy mostly has it, but does get out in front a little, and it DOES lessen impact. But extra points for doing the live version from Pulse. I snuck a little of the ending of that second Pulse solo in the last few times we did that. It was fun that some people noticed that and freaked out a little extra. The first girl is really technically good, but she's too far on front of the beat, the phrasing is off, and her sonic choices aren't my favorite. The last girl is doing more of an 'inspired by' kind of take, she's a good player, but it's not the specific solo so much.

Oh hell yes. Talk about some deja vu / memories.
The winter of 79/80 was quite the experience. Me and my circle of friends being 17-19 yrs old, discovered Pink Floyd and acid at about the same time. Add to that some killer sinsemilla along with no responsibilities other than to earn enough money for drugs and gas you get some, maybe a bit hazy, yet terrific memories.

In order of: Really Good to The Best 4 - Tina S - Really good, and I've watched this before back when it first went viral. I'd be so proud of my daughter to be able to do that. She adds her own flashiness, and for her age... wow. However, the video loses the tone war against the 2 guys. She also plays about a minute and a half, so not as much to offer as the rest of the videos. That said, I wanted to see what she was up to now-days, and she hasn't posted a new video in 6 years. I wonder how amazing she is now. 3 - Sophie Lloyd - Beautiful video quality. Playing that Keisel gives it a much different tone than the others, bringing a much more modern flavor. To do a good cover, you need to be able to do it as good as the original artist or make it original. Sophie chose to do the latter with a "shred" version which was cool. I'm intrigued to see more of what she does as she is also pleasant on the eyes. I will be checking out more of her vids soon. Subscribed. 2 - Kfir Ochaion - I watched this video first. Afterwards my first thought was (Wow, nobody will top this) as he absolutely nails it. Clean playing and Major bonus points for playing an extended version for 10 minutes! He chose to cut his head from frame, so I miss getting to watch the passion come our from facial expressions. I like watching players faces do funny things: squints, lip perks, goofy eyes, etc. I did go watch additional videos so I do now know what he looks like when he plays. The dude is a beast! I also don't think he touches the whammy bar, which Andrey adds. 1 - Andrey Korolev - Overall video and playing was stylistically right up my alley. It's got a vintage feel and watching him play is entertaining to me. I can tell he is really feeling it while playing and that passes over to the listener. Listening to this brought a tear to my eye and I've heard it played thousands of times. He freaking owns the whammy bar and plays it to perfection. @3:15 WOW. It was so good that I went back and watched it again x3. Gotta love the PULSE version, it's my fav. I Subscribed to his channel and will be anxious to see if he does any other songs/styles that I really enjoy listening to. EDIT: He also does a cover of Sorrow and High Hopes and holy shit.
