I'm wondering if they are planning on stretching out Elfstones material for more than one season. If they don't, they will have to recast most of the actors to go on to the Wishsong material, since it takes place a generation later. |

Yeah, that was unbelievably lame. UNBELIEVABLY lame. Just stupid. Quote:

I'm assuming they are not going to recast things every year. I'm not the biggest TV watcher in the world, but it would be extremely unusual to recast a successful show pretty much in its entirety. TV shows rely on continuity. If I were to bet, they will just shoehorn the plot of subsequent books, which may happen many years down the road, onto the current actors. Obviously some actors can be swapped out, but an entire recast would be very strange indeed. Then again, as far as I know (or could find with some quick research), there are no commitments beyond this year for the tv series, so I imagine once it's done, they will look at the ratings and figure out what to do going forward then.

Well, you don't have to re-cast Allanon.
The rest of this shit is starting to irritate me, though. |

The writing is just awful. Even for cheesy scifi.

I looked at my wife after episode 3 and said "this is Lord of the Rings meets Dawson's Creek".
So far I'm still being entertained. My 11 year old cannot get over how bad the CGI is, however. When that big demony thing appeared last episode, my oldest (14, and more accepting of things as they are) said "holy smokes!" and my youngest immediately replied "holy bad CGI!" It was funny, but it's hard to get into the story when he keeps pointing that out. I had to spend some time explaining how a weekly TV show has neither the time nor the budget to do the type of CGI that he is used to seeing in these blockbuster movies.

I guess it's my age as well, because it never ceases to amaze me how GOOD the CGI and effects are on even "low budget" TV shows these days.

He's 11, and utterly spoiled when it comes to CGI. We are big fans of the Marvel universe, so we see all those movies in the theaters, and of course we saw LOTR and Transformers and other heavy CGI movies, so he's utterly spoiled as to what is reasonable. I'm with you -- the CGI is plenty "good enough" to not be distracting. A bit better than what we grew up watching.

Here's another classic blast from the past:
Edit: And holy shit. I just looked, and that was 1958. That's pretty incredible for 1958.

Right, Ray Harryhausen or whatever his name was. The original special effects master. I think he did most/all of those Sinbad movies, and a ton of other movies involving monsters and the like.

Yeah, he was great. My all time favorite movie in that style is Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger.

Loved the book...just loved it.
Absolutely detest this show...Eretria mischaracterization by turning her into some sort of sex nymph, Amberle's choice not to be a part of the chosen completely gone, a lighter - really... I could go on and on...Only saving grace for the show is eye candy of the leads. |

Elves are supposed to have great agility etc and yet all these elves just stumble around tripping etc. Even Dialogue is getting super annoying.

Wanted to like this series, have watched them all up to this point but...it's weak. I laugh at the characters when they try to act serious, or tough. The acting is horrible, the budget obviously not near sufficient to take on a story like this. None of the might, glory, majesty, or strengths of the mystical characters is done justice; it's all silly.
This is yet another story that might have been really good if HBO, AMC, or one of the other majors had taken it on but as it is, it's a joke.
