How many times do I have to explain to you... Smith takes nothing for granted. Saying what he did today shows that he knows nothing is owed to him after this season and that his play and whatever events that transpire this season will determine his place in 2018. On the reverse side, you have Reid saying that Alex should know management trusts him.

The last thing Smith wants to say is something arrogant that upsets the base or management. It is the PERFECT PR statement. Saying otherwise would just be stupid.

Salary cap wise his last year is not a commitment it is a team option. His statement was entirely (sans 3.6 million of 20mil) correct.
