Looking for a quad cab pickup

I've spent the last 6 1/2 years getting the crap beat out of me by my rough riding Dakota and I don't really want another one.

I've seen a few Explorer Sport Tracs that are reasonably priced, but I'm worried that they're cheap for a reason. I know the Explorers of the 90s were garbage.

I do like the Chevy Colorados but the resale on them is ridiculous. Hell I may as well buy a Toyota for what they're going for. And they have a 5 cyl...wtf?

Anybody have any experiences with either of these?

what you want a pickup like 60% of america, have fun paying 15k for a 8 year old truck with 250k miles on it. The market on pickups are reeruned, you might as well buy brand new because they're almost an investment now days.

I'm in the market as well. I don't really need a big ass truck, but now that I have a little dude I want to start going camping and all that jazz. My problem is that I don't have a clue to what I might want to pull with the thing down the road, so should I just bite the bullet and buy a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton diesel so that when I want to buy some giant 5th wheel camper I can? I figure that's the only way I can ever get the wife to go camping.

What do you use your truck for?

I use Suburbans and Yukons for my business. I love them. They have a lot of cargo capacity, keep things dry, and are well built.

Yeah. The fullsize market is reeruned. This winter I managed to find a 2010 with 19 K miles on it for 29. I pulled the trigger on it so fast it hurt.

I just need a daily driver with the flexibility to occasionally haul people and/or small loads. It seems excessive to have a full size truck when most of the time it will only be me and some tools in it.

When I bought my F-150, it was getting the same MPG as the Dakota. I get 19-22 on the highway. From what I hear, the newer full size trucks can get up to 25 MPG HWY now.

I sold my 2004 Dakota for $9300. It had new tires and was in good condition.
Craigslist-4 hours-cash.

My new Ram gets 20mpg at 65 mph on the interstate. 17 in town.
The Dakota got 9mpg in the cold last winter in 4wd.

It was a no brainer to get a new truck

How does the Ram ride? Is it any smoother than the Dakota? I used to work with a guy who had a mid 90s Ram that was awful. Maybe they've gotten better over the years.

Just man up and buy a half ton. Dad has an 08, it's just extended cab, but he's got 140K on it and it is a freaking stud. He's hauled WAAAAAAY more than its capacity, taken it where it wasn't supposed to go, beat it down the worst roads imaginable, and got mud in places where it shouldn't be and the only thing wrong with it is the seat is coming apart on the door side where he slides in and out. He did have a recall on an o2 sensor in 09, but since then, brakes and tires.

That's the kind of pickup you need. Unfortunately it is still worth 10-12, but it will run a good long time yet and be a way better pickup than a compact. I don't know what you're Dakota is getting, but a full size chevy with a 5.3 will get 16 out in the country and 18 on the highway.

Besides that, if you keep the pickup for 100,000, if you're getting 16, you will buy 6,250 gallons of fuel. If you're getting 20 (I doubt it) in a compact, you buy 5,000. That's 1250 gallon difference. At $2.50 gas, that's $3,125 over the life of the vehicle. If you're doing 20,000 miles a year, that is $625/ year. With the added towing capacity, bed size, cab size, comfort, etc., gas really isn't that much. And that's if you get a 4 MPG bump buying a compact, which, unless it's a manual, I doubt you get.

They're better. And more importantly, the transmission is better.
