Nolan's Batman 3 Title

Batman sequel 'Rises' again

LOS ANGELES - THE next Batman sequel has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. Distributor Warner Bros. confirmed the name for director Christopher Nolan's third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero, which follows Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008.

The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters July 20, 2012. Bucking Hollywood's current wave of 3-D movies, Nolan is not planning to shoot the film in 3-D.

Warner Bros had agreed with Nolan's argument that the sequel should resist the 3-D craze, the director told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, which first reported the title.

Nolan would not reveal what villain might appear in The Dark Knight Rises, but he said it would not be the Riddler, one of the key bad guys in the comics and past film and TV Batman tales.

Earlier this year, Nolan said he would not resurrect the Joker, the cackling villain played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for the role, a year after he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. -- AP

All of which could be a fun added bit of interesting to this movie.
My hunch is that Bane and Catwoman both know Batman's identity.

Is anyone else terrified that this movie is just going to suck out loud? I don't know why I have that feeling. I have loved BB & TDK, and Nolan is one of my favorite directors of all time, but I just have a feeling that there is no way that this can live up to the previous two.

I know I'm not. It is a possibility given the strength of the first two but I fully expect a great movie.

In all honesty, I don't expect this movie to be as good (to me) as The Dark Knight. However, I do expect it to be as good or better than Batman Begins.

I can't imagine how this thing could possibly suck out loud, though. Will it live up to fan imposed hype? Probably not. But it won't suck.

I actually don't feel over-hyped by this one yet. It feels about where it should be. Almost everyone I encounter seems to think this thing will be a letdown. There's a lot of anti-hype going around.

That being said, I think you're probably right. It probably can't live up to the hype. But do you really think it's going to be a bad movie?

I just don't see that.

Oh no....I see it being a great movie. But the hype has already started for it what 3/4 months before the movie comes out. By the time the movie actually is in theaters, I'm sure the hype will be Harry Potter big. That's hard to live up to.

Absolutely.

Which is why I'm determined to lower my expectations and say I'll be happy if this thing is as good as Batman Begins. Nolan hasn't made a bad movie yet, in my estimation. And I think, given the talent involved, that this thing has the potential to be better than a few of his films.

But we'll see. Like you said, the hype will continue to grow. Hopefully, I won't get swept up any further.

That costume blows. It reminds me of ****ing Superman's costume. Realistically, who the **** wouldn't be able to guess her secret identity? As serious as these movies take themselves, I don't see how they can justify letting this bitch traipse around in that horrid excuse for a mask.

Nolan has never made a bad movie. He's a smart filmmaker. It might not live up to expectations, but it won't be bad.

Most super heroes don't hide their identities very well. It is what it is. I have no problem with her costume. Its not like Batman's mask is ultra secretive either. In TDK, Dent was able to fool people onto thinking he was batman despite the fact that the lower half of his face looks NOTHING like Waynes.

I think it'll also depend on how much they're trying to get away with. I want to see the function/utility of her costume in the context of the storytelling before I pass judgement on it.
