Lewdog in the market for a new ride.....

Not really but lewdog has been presented with a pretty good deal and would like to hear from car enthusiasts. Note, I don't know much about cars but I would like to own a somewhat nice one someday. My current ride is a 2001 Toyota Celica with 98k miles. Boy howdy!

My Father-in-law bought a 2005 Mustang GT Premium new on custom order and has kept the car this whole time garaged/covered. He only drove it during the short summers in Montana. It only has 14,500 miles on it! He's done quite a few modifications, which I have scanned below. Not sure what it all means but it's around 10k of modifications.

He's wanting to sell it as it's never gotten much use and is offering it to me for 13k. When comparing this to other Mustang GTs of that year, it's lower in price and has lower miles.

Photos below.

Thoughts on what lewdog should do?

This right here is sooo true. LOL.

And my car runs fine and I was not in the market for a different car. This just seems like a deal I don't want to pass up.

Yea it has low miles but a 10 year old car is still 10 years old. Things go simply because of time and time alone. Worries me as I planned to buy a new car within the next 2 years, not an older model. However, this is about half the cost of what I'd be spending on a new car and a hell of a lot more fun than the car I'd be buying.
I've got an 08 that I've personally put 60k miles on in around 2 years. Never had a problem in the world with it. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Some advice from someone that has a heavily modded STI. Unless you have the ability to work on the engine/tranny yourself, or know someone that can do it for cheap (or help you), stay away. The head and tranny are modded, cpu flashed, so if anything goes wrong you will need to open it up or pay someone to do it. Cant bring it to Ford for repairs/issues. It is a very nice ride though

As someone else said, tinted windows. Also, use a good leather product like this (doesn't have to be this, but something similar that's not Armorall)....

Mild cam, not some big donky dick. It will be fine for many, many miles. I had an aggressive cam in an LS1 and DD for 4 years 80,000 miles with no issues until some ass rear ended my at 50mph.

Oh, and buy that mother****er. Get rid of your boring ass camry.

I don't even like mustangs but I would be all over that deal.

Edit: With it being a popular platform, it wouldn't be hard to find someone that is able to work on it if you need it.

That's a pretty good deal on the car. That said, 13k gives you a lot of other choices that you may or may not like better than the stang.

Lew, I drive a black car with tan leather interior. No heat issues at all. None.

The exterior color has nothing to do with interior temperatures.

Door handles might get hot to the touch.

Hope you pick up this car. It's you man.

The racing suspension may give it a pretty harsh ride, which may get old after a while if it's a daily driver. Still, that it is a pretty good deal. Maybe keep the Celica and use the Mustang for fun.

Good to hear. Sure it's 10 years old and it will need some maintenance but it's a great deal and about half as much as buying a new car, which I was planning on doing later this year. The fact this is the first year of that body style is a bit worrying but from reports the reliability for a Ford was above average this year.

Yea I guess so. Just wasn't expected to be thinking about a 10 year old car with low miles. It was going to be rather new car with low/new miles. But this saves us about half the cost and a hell of a lot more fun!

yea that worries me too. Although from my limited knowledge the engine doesn't seem heavily modified??? I live in Phoenix and can probably ask another Mustang owner where they take their cars, but hopefully in a place this big it won't be a huge issue. A good mechanic is hard to find though. And no I can't do any work other than basic maintenance shit.

Windows would be tinted limousine blackout on back window and as dark as I can on the sides as soon as it arrives. Shit gets hot here!

Thanks. I'd definitely get those. What's wrong with Armorall?

No shitty. I bought Celica when I was 19 and needed something semi-fun but that wasn't classified as a sports car because of insurance rates.

It was definitely a popular style so I have heard fixing it, isn't as bad as you'd think. Plus we would get all the stock parts that were taken out.

Maybe different options but probably not an option like this with low miles and a bigger engine than other shit I'd be looking at. We don't have kids so wife says this is my final fun car.

Great to hear! I love the color black but I also know is shows all dirt/scratches like swirl marks. Oh well, can't be perfect.

I think the tinted windows I would do would help with the heat a lot. My Celica only has moderate tinting, so going really dark on the Stang should help.

Harsh ride? I drive a Celica!

I don't think we'd want to keep the Celica solely for having to insure 3 cars and maintenance/upkeep for three cars. Not that we couldn't afford it but I have better things to spend out money on.

I commute 15 miles one-way to work. 5 miles on a road with a few stop lights and then 10 miles on a freeway. My work is only 3 stoplights from the freeway. So about 8k miles commuting to work in a year, taking it just around here and using the wife's Civic for longer trips I bet I don't put more than 12k on the car in a year.

So wife is 100% in on this car. She has always loved it and thought her dad were never get rid of it. We also both drive manuals so I suppose I would allow us to share. Although she did say it would be my daily driver. But this woman who is 100% in on the Stang, is trying to fully convince me, although she told me months ago that my next car after my Celica couldn't be "a small ****ing coupe, you're getting practical this time."

Lewdog still has some things to think about. He is a Jew and has a hard time parting with money. I appreciate all the comments and thoughts though.
