We were toying around with doing a driving trip to Myrtle Beach, SC but before we book I want to touch on another option with the CP travel nuts.

Driving to Orlando which surprisingly is only 1 hour further. It will be the hottest time of year unfortunately but I wanted to know about how much you can get done in one day at Universal Studios and Seaworld. The rest of the time would be Cocoa Beach or some other beach.

The entire family would be going so it will be a LONG 2 day road trip going there and getting back. We would also only have 5 full days to enjoy the stuff around us.

Opinions.

Update - We are booked for Orlando now so I'm only looking for suggestions close to there.

JIMO, that's a tough range of ages to make everybody happy and get around the parks.

Anyway, you could split the group, say one with the wife with the younger ones for Disney and the other two at Universal. It might make the kids happier but maybe not you two.

Well it looks like I might take one of the kids to Universal while the wife takes the other to Seaworld. Anyone know where to obtain discounted tickets or will purchasing them directly from universal and seaworld be the best option.

Try the Publix grocery stores. They are everywhere. The "Hy-Vee" of this area. They always sell those tickets. How much off? No idea.

If I was to buy you tickets at the in-state discount, you would still have to show a Florida ID to use them.

I'm trying to figure out if I'm not reading the thread title correctly. It sounds like you're saying that Orlando is only 1 hour from Myrtle Beach.

OK, I'm messing around on Touringplans.com and it got me to wondering. Which universal park is the best one. Islands of Adventure or Universal Studios. Look like both basically have on roller coaster attraction with Hulk and Mummy.

Right now we are looking at Universal but should I be considering IOA?

Keep in mind, I really don't plan on spending much time at Harry Potter worlds in either park. Sounds like too much of a mess and time waster.

People love the Harry Potter ride. It's so popular that its being called the ride that saved Florida tourism during the recession. You need to suck it up and wait in line. No way that its just hype. It has to be one helluva of a ride. Many people think the Transformers ride is the best ever. I've not been to the park since they were built. I did ride the Hulk and it was fantastic.

The only way IOA is better is because of the age of your kids. They have a lot of rides that are not world class but pretty cool for junior high and below kids.

There isn't a chance in hell I will wait in line for 3 hours for ANY ride. One hour is my limit. I've never even had to wait in line for one hour at Disney or Cedar Point.

Same here, im actually planning a weekend trip in October to Universal Florida with my son.

But neither of us are Harry Potter fans, so we will probably skip alot of that stuff.

I plan on staying onsite and getting some fast passes anyways to we can skip the lines.
