2014 Bowe's best year?
Interesting article on Bowe in Arrowhead Pride (by MNChiefsFan) that looks at Bowe's "efficiency" thus far in 2014. It's a fairly lengthy article so I'll only post the thesis and leave you with a link:
"Somehow, very quietly, Bowe is starting to piece together his most efficient season as a pro. Let me give you a couple of minutes to stop laughing and making fun of me. (waits) You good? Great. I suppose what got you laughing was the idea that Bowe is somehow better this season than he was in 2010 or 2011 (his most productive seasons by yards and touchdowns) is pretty ridiculous. Which is why I'm not here to argue as to whether Bowe is going to post better overall stats than he did those years. This is where the word "efficiency" becomes important. Because so far this season, Bowe has been highly efficient with the targets he's received." Rest of article: http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2014/1...as-city-chiefs |

Back up to 50-some 1st downs would be nice.

Hes caught like 75 % of his targets. And he only caught 50 to 60 % in 10 and 11 very impressive.

Kind of seems like a worthless stat. If they could tell me that he's had X amount of catchable passes thrown to him and he's caught X many, then I guess that would be useful. |

He's had 28 catchable balls thrown his way, and has caught 25, for 89%. That puts him at 122nd out of 177 WRs. Emmanuel Sanders is at 98%, Donnie Avery is at 93%.

I would imagine any receiver being targeted by Alex Smith is going to have a better rate of success than one targeted by Cassel who forced a large chunk of those throws. Where as Smith will only throw it if you are open. I think Bowe is an elite talent, but his lack of targets is directly correlated to the amount of trust the coach and QB have in him. Although this lack of trust may be an error in judgement, you cannot deny that Bowe has contributed to it with some of his drops. Though few in number they have been pretty memorable, given how wide open with nothing but green in front of him he was, and the fact that they were total drive enders. I predicted before the season began that DBowe was going to have the best year of his career. As soon as they start making him a focal point in the passing game, I will say that prediction still has a chance to play out. If Andy wants Smith to have more games like he did against Indy in the POs, he needs to start making Bowe the primary receiver. Preferably off of Play action while Charles and The River Knile are putting clown shoes on the D. |

Smith doesn't recognize "NFL open."
He prefers "D-II College open."

Bowe is grossly underrated on this board.
Our offense has been amazingly efficient this year sans the Dolphins game and, to a lesser extent, the 49ers game. Starting to really like this team and really like the guy in charge (Dorsey). Reid still needs to hire me for clock management, though. |

Efficiency should be higher when you aren't targeted on medium and deep balls.

I don't think it's worthless. If he can come close to the same number of yards, or even surpass what he did in his break out years on fewer attempts, I think that is significant and possibly part of the reason for the offensive success overall. Allows those other attempts that went for incompletions previously to be distributed elsewhere.... Charles, Kelce, Sherman... and turn what was 0 yards in 2010 and 2011 to positive yards in 2014 without sacrificing total yardage for Bowe. I think that is a significant stat, no?
