Titans to release veteran Shaun Phillips
Titans to release veteran Shaun Phillips
Shaun Phillips was the leading pass-rusher on a Broncos team that made the Super Bowl last season. Now he's reportedly looking for a job. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the Titans will release him, according to a source who has talked to the player. Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean first reported the news. The Titans gave Phillips a $750,000 signing bonus in the offseason and paid him $1.5 million, but got only two sacks in return. This is a strong statement considering that the Titans still have pay Phillips his salary for the rest of the season, unless another squad claims him off waivers. But Wyatt notes the team wants to play younger contributors down the stretch, and Phillips hasn't delivered this season. It wouldn't be a surprise to see a contender give Phillips a shot as a situational pass-rusher off the bench, possibly even the Broncos. |

He's solid and would come cheap to whoever picks him up. Elway said he was a better locker room guy than he thought.
I doubt Denver picks him up though, he would be a good guy for KC to pick up so they can give guys like Hali and Houston a rest every now and then. |

Meh. There is no way the Chiefs will claim him. And no way that he will come here knowing that his snaps would be almost nothing with Houston and Hali.
Best of luck to him. Could see him end up back in San Diego, or Pittsburgh though.
