Da'Rick Rodgers Released

Chiefs release WR Da'Rick Rogers
Adam Teicher, ESPN Staff Writer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Talented but troubled wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers was released by the Kansas City Chiefs just hours before they were to begin their mandatory minicamp. Da'Rick Rogers has caught only 14 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns during his NFL career.

Rogers, 23, was one of the SEC's best wide receivers in 2011, when he caught 67 passes for more than 1,000 yards and scored nine touchdowns for Tennessee. But he was subsequently thrown off the team for disciplinary problems and transferred to Tennessee Tech.

Rogers has been unable to make it in the NFL. He signed with the Chiefs, his third NFL team, in January but hadn't been impressive during offseason practice. The Chiefs also may have felt comfortable releasing Rogers because of the emergence of rookie wide receiver Chris Conley, who has played well in practice.

Rogers pleaded guilty in May in Indianapolis to resolve a 2014 DUI case. He was sentenced to one day in jail and six months of probation.

The Chiefs also released offensive lineman Kelvin Palmer, who recently signed as a free agent, and signed offensive lineman Tavon Rooks of Kansas State.

why is everybody so down on Avant? He's a very experienced guy to have around...guys like Avant and Maclin who know the system are GREAT for a guy like Conley. Albert Wilson, DAT.....its not a bad group.

That spot SHOULD be filled by someone with talent....sadly the Chiefs still don't have a lot of talent there.
There is more to this than talent alone.

My gut feeling tells me Avant is a good teammate, locker room guy.

Team morale is very important. It seems like some here would rather have a guy that's poisonous to team morale over a guy that enhances the overall team morale. Which to me makes no sense.

Probably because he is considered to be maxed out, lacks explosive speed, and doesn't possess the possible storied journey of an unproven kid that might just explode onto the NFL scene.

He's just boring. Solid, reliable, and helpful? Sure.. but boring and temporary.

Does this sound like a guy CP would approve of?

Bc CP is full of morons. Avant is the perfect guy along with Maclin to show these young guys how it's done in Reid's offense.

I bet Sean Smith didn't like him. He was only good on one play and thats when he played against the Chiefs.

Only way I can see Daniel coming back is if Murray completely bottoms out. I think they are expecting Murray to be ready for the #2 role in 2016.
Best case scenario is that Avant doesn't even make the squad.

I think you're wrong about Daniel. Even if Murray leapfrogs Daniel on the depth chart (which I find unlikely but whatever), he'll still have a valuable role on the roster.

What your describing is a coach, not a player signed to the 53 man roster.

Yea because he has absolutely no value on the field as a possession guy in the slot

Avant has made an impression on every one of these young WR's (just listen to their interviews when asked about him) and he's helping them in ways that are different frome Culley/Reid.

Let's say Wilson/DAT are out against a team like the Broncos. You'd rather have Hemmingway playing dropping passes on critical 3rd downs?

Yeah, pretty much.

13 catches? Sorry, those can go elsewhere.

Then pay him $500k to coach, not waste a roster spot.

You want to put the slowest skill player on the roster on the outside?

Dude, it's nice to have balance in every position group. It's been talked about, but Reid's system takes at least 2 years to be completely comfortable in as a WR and you want us to have Maclin and a bunch of young guys? It's likely just for 1 ****ing season. Relax.

Also, ask Jamaal how beneficial it was learning behind Thomas Jones as a younger guy if you don't see any value in a player/coach. He's likely our #5 WR this year it's not a ****ing waste of a spot at all.

He's better than Hemmingway. You can't possibily think that this would be turned around from the worst WR core ever to a competent core in one year right?

Conley, Wilson and DAT have next to zero experience in this offense at WR. It's logical to at least start the season with more than 1 guy who does.

The people ragging on Avant...must have no concept of football at a professional level. He was playing in games after being in KC for a week...in a system he hadn't played in for a few years. One of the more complex one's in the NFL...not only that but is wasn't exactly the same as it was in Philly.

I expect him to be on the same page with Smith this season...after OTAs, minicamp and preseason. He didnt have any of that last year..essentially just walked in. WCO needs a sure-handed possession WR that runs precise routes...and that is exactly what he is. That 41 yard completion was because he knew where to be when the play broke down..

^agree with blackop.

He's here bc he knows the system and has extensive experience in it.

Wilson, Conley and DAT combined have very little.
