Da'Rick Rodgers Released

Chiefs release WR Da'Rick Rogers
Adam Teicher, ESPN Staff Writer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Talented but troubled wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers was released by the Kansas City Chiefs just hours before they were to begin their mandatory minicamp. Da'Rick Rogers has caught only 14 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns during his NFL career.

Rogers, 23, was one of the SEC's best wide receivers in 2011, when he caught 67 passes for more than 1,000 yards and scored nine touchdowns for Tennessee. But he was subsequently thrown off the team for disciplinary problems and transferred to Tennessee Tech.

Rogers has been unable to make it in the NFL. He signed with the Chiefs, his third NFL team, in January but hadn't been impressive during offseason practice. The Chiefs also may have felt comfortable releasing Rogers because of the emergence of rookie wide receiver Chris Conley, who has played well in practice.

Rogers pleaded guilty in May in Indianapolis to resolve a 2014 DUI case. He was sentenced to one day in jail and six months of probation.

The Chiefs also released offensive lineman Kelvin Palmer, who recently signed as a free agent, and signed offensive lineman Tavon Rooks of Kansas State.

Of course you don't design a play to go to Avant on third and 12, but you can take it to the bank that he will pick up 3rd and 6 damn near every time.

If you're gonna try to clown, understand the discussion.
says the guy who thinks Wilson and Alex Smith emerged because Avant arrived.....

And you still don't get what i was saying about Knile. No one ever claimed it wasn't a counter play or anything even remotely close to that.

"take it to the bank he'll pick up a 3rd and 6 everytime"

Lol, you can't be serious.

Avant...the QB/WR whisperer...makes you wonder why he was ever cut in the first place...afterall...he just shows up and everyone instantly gets better...

Problem is boss, those possession receivers need to be your starting WR's.....otherwise wtf is the point?

You can't be a possession receiver as the 6th or 7th option. That doesn't even make sense.

I doubt he gets that many targets this year.

We replaced our #1 and #2 WR. We had the worst WR core in the NFL last season. Give it more than 1 season to be completely finished.

We've made great progress with the Maclin and Conley additions.

Yeah but he instantly makes everyone better just by being in his presence.

Avant the Offense whisperer.

If he's too much of a clown or a prick to make it to CAMP on this team as a WR, he probably should just go get his insurance license

Avant the Offense whisperer.
I'm not saying he is an "offense whisperer" ...but I am saying there was an obvious change to the offensive production when he got here.

Alex Smith pass yards each week:

202
255
186
248
158
221
223
199
177
108
234
153 -------the week Avant was signed
293
297
311

I'm not saying the guy is any kind of game changer, but it's obvious the offense was better once he got here

The offense was averaging 201 passing yards per game before Avant got here and averaged 264 per game after he got here.

So you have the 29th ranked Cardinals, the 27th ranked Steelers and an awful Raiders team.

In those games he contributed 11 catches for 122 yards.....41 of those yards came on a single play. And the team couldn't even score more than 14 points in two of those games.

Real strong argument you have there......

Can't see Hemingway being a lock. He's on a 1 yr, minimal deal. Very good on STs, but certainly not irreplaceable. He will fight for his life for the bottom of the DC.

Taking a look at it, Travis Kelce, Albert Wilson and the shitty pass defenses they played had far more to do with their "success" than Jason Avant. Unless of course you subscribe to the idea that Avant is The Offense Whisperer.

You need guys like that on your team. He is not here to produce or be that game changer but rather be that mentor that guys like DAT, Wilson and even Conley need.

That's worth a lot more value than a guy who is talented but has a two cent brain.

Avant was a starter on the Panthers when they cut him... he's probably about like Bowe in terms of speed, with less body strength but better hands and routes.

They have that guy. He just signed a big expensive contract and stands to be a major contributor in this offense.....

So, why do we need Avant again?

To be clear, i doubt he gets cut, but that's only because the rest of the players on the list are camp fodder.

But to act like he's anything but a JAG is silly.

Most people, including yourself, have no idea how good of a route runner he is or isn't. It's not like you get to watch him run his routes when you're watching the game on your couch.

Kinda like when posters on this board talk about how a player prepares compared to another. You have no clue how they prepared for the game.
