Question for all CPers that have worked graveyard shift...
I have an opportunity to move to dayshift doing the same thing I do now. The big kicker is that I lose my shift differential of 10% if I make the switch. I've been working graveyard for over 7 years now so it has become kind of normal even though the sleeping situation sucks.

I'm curious what others would do in my situation.

Pros
normal life
gain my saturday mornings back
get to sleep with my wife

Cons
10% decrease in pay
will be surrounded by employees (currently work alone which is nice)
more stress and more responsibility

What say the planet?

Stay on the graveyard shift. The 10% pay decrease would be enough to keep me from switching.

I loved graveyard when I was single. It would be a lot harder married with kids.

However, working by myself at night with 10% more pay would make it a hard decision.

Do you like people? I have been there several times thru the years. But I don't have kids. I like working at night. No politics at night. About Saturdays mornings I always slept about a few hours on Friday morning and stayed up all day to get back to normal then went to bed "normal time" Friday night and had a normal weekend but had a long Sunday night into Monday morning.

Yep. Don't think there won't be more stress involved with the family as well. You're losing a lot, to lose some more. If you can handle the nights, I would stick with it.
