The traps work okay, but some people say that they actually lure in more beatles from the surrounding area, thus making the problem worse.
We had a lot of garlic this year (not intentionally), and now that you mention it... they weren't nearly as bad.

We had a dozen traps. Emptied them 2-3 times a day. They stink worse than a whole bunch of horrible things. It was stupid. I think we were pulling all the neighbor's bugs, as you said.
Didn't have any garlic last year. Glad to hear it helped you. I think I might just plant more than I had planned. Dinny |

How did this work out for you?
I tried planting garlic (for having garlic, not for repelling anything) last year and pulled too early. But planting another batch today. I've got three kinds to plant - Creole Burgundy, Chesnok Red, and Siciliano. The Creole and the Chesnok are both hardneck varietals that do well with mild winters, while the Siciliano is a softneck. We don't have a ton of room dedicated to garden, so we'll probably only get 20-24 plants in the ground. |

remember - you can sneak garlic plants into flower gardens and near permanent horticulture (you can take a horticulture class but you can't make her think). Hide 'em in amongst stuff, they're not really pretty but worth it.
I won't plant 'em this time of year in KC, but gulf coast folks can grow a boat load of garlic on both sides of heat-stroke season.

I clipped all the scapes from the hardnecks I planted. Put a couple in a stir fry yesterday. Will probably throw some in the eggs tomorrow.
I love scapes. |
