Much like Star Wars, the weaker principal performances were bolstered by talented supporting cast members, like James Earl Jones and Max Von Sydow. Do you really need an Oscar-caliber actor to play a pissed-off avenging barbarian? NO. Was it cheesy? Sure, but no more so that other Schwarzenegger films like Commando. It's not his worse movie - it's one of his best. It is far and away my favorite Arnie movie, and the only ones I'd acknowledge as being better overall films are Terminator, Terminator 2 and Predator.

And if you don't think so, and especially if you think it's worse than shit like the second Conan, Red Sonja or Batman and Robin, which were all absolutely horrific, you're ****ing reeruned.

This.

Ever seen the reboot from a year or two ago? IM tempted, but heard it sucks.

It's incredibly bad. The opening scene is pretty funny though. Conan's mother and father are fighting in a battle. It's an every day kind of battle and the movie doesn't explain why they are there. Conan's mother is pregnant with Conan and is nearly due while she is fighting so she is a bit hampered. She gets herself cut up and she is going to die from bleeding out. Conan's father wants that baby though. He performs an emergency C-section with a very broad knife. He doesn't look away from his wife's eyes while he does it, he just pulls out a large blade and quickly stabs his wife in the vag then, saws her open. then the father reaches in and pulls Conan out. (he did all that and never looked down to see where he was cutting/stabbing) Once he pulls Conan out, the father holds Conan over his head to expose him to the elements so he will toughen up. Baby Conan and his loving dad then let out a battle cry, together.

that's fairly nonsensical but it's not the worst part of that movie.

Yeah.. Pretty bad.

I thought the "born of battle" line was pretty cool though.

They flat out do not score films like Basil Poledouris used to do it anymore.

It's a dead art. He's also dead.

I love his scores for Conan, Robocop, The Hunt for Red October and Starship Troopers. In fact his score for ST might be the best part of that film.

The new Conan is barely above a sci-fi channel movie, none of the magic or charm of the original.

Lots of insanity here, but the biggest offenders:

19. The Running Man (1987)
Should be higher

9. The Terminator (1984)
#9? That's just nuts.

4. Kindergarten Cop (1990)
Probably the best of the comdies, but #4 overall?

Commando? Mark Lester is a friend but I could never get past Vernon Wells (Wez from Road Warrior) getting all huffy and throwing away his gun ("I don't need this!") before getting his neck busted by Ah-nold. One of the worst IMO.

Heh, it's pretty corny and almost cartoon level of realism, but it's fun.
