Ogbo Okoronkwo

Anybody watch this dude? Matt Miller pointed out in his podcast during the Senior Bowl that the Chiefs should love this kid as an option.

Here is his profile.

6’1” 242 lbs
34 1/2 inch arms
9 1/4 hands
4.74 40-pro day
6.84 3 cone-same as Sam Hubbard!
27 bench reps-tied for best among OLB’s.

This is the guy we would take in rd 2 if it’s a rusher IMO. Experience rushing a dropping into coverage, long arms, good bend and solid muscle throughout his entire body.

Not sure I want an OLB in rd 2 due to lack of playing time, but if we go that route, I’d like this guy.

I like him a lot, but being just 6’1”, I’m not willing to draft him before our last 3rd.

How tall were James Harrison and Dwight Freeney? I don't think his height is that big of a problem. He has incredibly long arms for his size, and actually ideal arm length. That, with his stature will give him leverage wins.

What is an issue right now is his weight. 242 won't cut it (that's what Harrison came into the league at, but is nowhere near now). He's going to need to add 20 pounds and, if he does, how will that affect his agility?

I really like the kid a bunch, but I am worried that he'll end up a case like Dee Ford and not really get bigger and stronger.

Well that would be my follow up to your Harrison and Freeney question, but even then those guys are still very rare.

I don’t mind taking a chance on him or Nwosu in round 3, but I’d look elsewhere in the 2nd if Carter is off the board.

This is why I don’t want Carter. I do not want development players until rd 4. We have too many holes to have someone be the 4th OLB or need time to add weight and get stronger.

Lorenzo Carter adding weight=Tanoh Kpassagnon. We have that type of player to a “t”, so it confused me why we want another?

Our first 3 picks need to be guys who can play a lot this year.

Taking the developmental type guy with high upside isn't a terrible idea if you have guys in front of him that can play and are on their way out the door.

That was likely the idea with Tanoh, just that Hali fell off a cliff and Ford got hurt.

Tanoh Kpassagnon is a pass rusher trying to become a linebacker. Carter is a lineback who needs to work on his bend. HUGE difference IMO. Carter is not the project that Tanoh Kpassagnon is/was.

I'd like to see Tanoh play inside on pass rush downs with Houston, Ford and Jones.

That’s my point. Working on your bend is REALLY hard to do, especially when your 6’6”. Tanoh actually showed a nice bend last year, which really surprised me. Here’s the footage of it:

https://mobile.twitter.com/RealMNchi...9%2Fframe.html

My thing is, I like Carter. Wouldn’t be mad at his talent or him as a player. I’d be pissed that he’s our 4th OLB on the depth chart and probably wouldn’t play much this year, which is not good when you have a lot of holes needing to be filled.

This draft isn't about this year. You can't build a team with that kind of mindset.

I like Tanoh, just not sure he fits as a full time OLB. I know I know but Andy says...

Agree with the general sentiment here, I would rather take a guy like this in the 4th round as a developmental pick, too risky making a pick like this in the 2nd. I really liked whoever drafted Holland in the 4th in another thread.

The more and more I re-watch Carter, the more and more I think he is a project. He had a nice 40, but he plays reactionary and he just doesn't look to have that great of lateral agility. He also doesn't have that great burst off the snap. He really struggles to disengage from blocks and I question his strength. There was way too much tape of him struggling with TEs and FBs, much less tackles. He also struggles with bending at the corner. He doesn't ever seem to have a rush plan and mostly just runs into the tackle.
What I did like about Carter was that he looked relatively comfortable in space. He's still a bit unorthodox and gangly, but he could get out with TEs with moderate success. He also has some speed to close when he decides to use it.
At this point, I have to wonder if he really offers you much more than his teammate, Davin Bellamy, who is slotted to go in round 6. I was on him early, but have drastically fallen off his favor after going back to the tapes post-combine. I'd be a fan in the late 3rd/4th as a player you spend a couple years developing, but he's not a guy I see making an impact year one, and I doubt even year two.

The value difference between a 1st round and a 2nd round pass rusher is insane. If you take a 1st round guy you get 4.5-5 years of quality production before you have to pay him, if you take a project you might only get 2-3 years of production before you have to shell out the big bucks.

I just watched this guy for the first time and came away quite impressed. He showed some burst and the ability to beat tackles inside and outside. I think I like him better than Armstrong and Carter to be honest. He shows relentlessness and has multiple rush moves. Has some swagger to his play.
