I agree that Pennington is his absolute best comparison, especially when the injury risks are considered. However, I also don't see in Ponder the pinpoint accuracy I saw in Pennington. I remember being absolutely awed for a season or two by Pennington's uncanny ability to know where his players were going to be and squeeze the ball into those spots. He was a brilliantly accurate passer. Ponder's accuracy is solid, but nothing that jumps out at me. I'd say he's probably the most accurate passer in the class, but not a guy that could make his living strictly off that precision. And ultimately, there's really no escaping the fact that his damn throwing arm, his shoulder in fact, has been subject to injuries. When you say his best comparison is to a pre-injury Pennington...then remember that his most likely scenario is a post-injury Pennington due to his injury history, I just don't see how you can justify using a 1st or 2nd on him.

I saw a dude with all the tools and seemed like a pretty safe bet to invest in with Ponder. Now if you are wanting to try to find the next big thing Colin Kaepernick is the guy. The dude ran a 4.53, is a legit 6'5, and through the hardest ball at the combine at almost 60mph. He seems to have in the intangibles as well. Let this guy sit for a year and then cut him loose to see what he can do.

I know, it's a stupidy 'sexy' pick that fails more often than it succeeds. At the same time, that kid has every single tool you could ever want in a player. His teammates loved him and he has a damn cannon. With his mobility, size and strength, he's a wet dream if you can iron out the kinks. And an interesting wrinkle to him that I'm coming up with on the fly here. There was a lot of interest in him as a pitcher going into college, correct? The throwing motion for a pitcher and a quarterback are two very different animals. In fact, the throwing motion for a pitcher and him in particular are very dissimilar. What that tells me is that his throwing motion as a quarterback is learned, rather than a product of raw biomechanics. I think Tebow throws the way he does because his body almost requires it, ditto a guy like Vince Young or Tim Lincecum. Sometimes your biomechanics dictate your throwing technique, I don't think that's the case with Kaepernick. So I think you could really refine that quirky motion of his. His arm has shown that it's capable of slinging multiple types of balls using several different throwing motions. That tells me he can both change to a more conventional throwing style AND that, when a play goes to hell, even if he falls back to old habits on that play, the throw itself will still be decent as his arm has been conditioned to multiple angles. Disclaimer: Every single thing I wrote above could be bullshit and has not been subject to any sort of testing, either empirical or even a PS3. I just really like the guy and I'm trying to come up with more reasons to like him.

I heard from from Rex Ryan that if you videotape yourself tickling Colin Kaepernick's feet, that will cure cancer.
No, I don't understand it either. But considering my source, the Chiefs just can't afford to NOT draft this guy. |

I like Ponder a lot too until I saw the throwing drills.
Anything over 15 yards floated like a duck. IN A DOME. I'd look at him in the 3rd at soonest. |

I don't understand what people see in Ponder. He's got a weak arm, no height, good accuracy, and he didn't win anything in college.
I watched. Him play several times because so many on here love him, and I came away scratching my head every time.

Comes from a spread option system with a wind up that rivals Lincecum's. Are you some how hoping he's going to turn into Vick? Because he has a looooooooooooooong way to go before he thinks pass first. |

However we do have zorn as qb coach I think it's gonna be pretty much his decision if we take a qb and wether or not he can fix the mechanics. He won't have the power to dictate who we pick in the draft but when it comes to qb piloi and hailey will go what do u think zorn yeah or nay.
I could see us take Dalton, stanzi, devlin, or kapernecki Ponder might be too many injuries Mallet never a captain and attitude probs not sure if he's a piloi guy |
