sure, but you don't see the acct name when you chat only the character name.

i have no idea, i really haven't explored that part of the game yet.

i know you can 'friend' people and then a little popup tells you that a friend is online and where the friend is

iirc with Diablo II you only 'friended' a specific character, not the total account ... this might be the same way.

You friended accounts in Diablo 2, not just a character, unless they changed it since I've been playing.

I turned off general chat.

I accepted you then sent you a whisper that "You suck" last night but you didn't reply. You were level 4 at the time. I noticed later you hit level 5. gratz.
