***OFFICIAL Go Pats!!! MNF Pats/Bills Thread***

For two glorious weeks the fans of Patriots Nation and Chiefs Nation are united in common causes -- the destruction of the Buffalo Bills on MNF tonight, and next Sunday Pats/Broncos game. I've never created an "official" thread on anything in CP history I don't think, and I couldn't resist the opportunity.

So grit your teeth if necessary and say it with me -- GO PATS!!

Patriots 9-0
Bills 5-4

At Foxboro

While the IW was very much "wrong" (there's no denying that), don't think for a nanosecond that "QB protection" and "protect the future HoF'er" wasn't central to that error.
This doesn't make much sense. Blow the whistle before the guy even arrives? Before the QB is even out of bounds? Does that ever really happen? Inadvertent stupid whistle is stupid, and inadvertent.

Perhaps that's all part of "paying your dues" in the NFL, perhaps it has to do with running QBs vs. pocket-passers, but the difference in reaction is pretty undeniable.
Another possibility is that Steratore was checking Brady for concussion after that walloping. After the Case Keenum situation blew up, that is entirely possible.

Taylor's hit on that play barely registered. Can't see why anyone would run over to check on him. I'm shocked he somehow hurt his shoulder on that.

And yes, I hate Brady and that Pats, with a passion...
Thanks for clarifying because it really wasn't clear at all.

Two lowest scoring defenses in the NFL. Rookie QB on one side. Tom Brady on the other, but on the road, with Gronk and Moe, Larry and Curly as receivers.

Like 17-14 maybe...

Not a rookie, he's got a few years under his belt and has run the team weekly in practices this season. But, I get what you mean.

Denver probably has a few more offensives weapons ready to go this week, which can help Brock. Patriots have to adjust the planning a bit for this one.

I'm not sure if you played football, but you play until the whistle blows. That also means that you stop playing when it blows. It's just my opinion that the whistle, while wrong, was blown because Tom was about to get smooshed, so I think he blew the whistle hoping to keep one of the NFL's more marketable assets playing.

Oh, and yeah, he definitely gave Tom the field concussion test after that hit! Either that or he thought in that little exchange, if he was concussed, Tom being the competitor he's said to be would say, "yeah, now that you ask, I'm feeling consussed, please ignore the guys in the booth who do nothing but watch people for signs of concussions and please have the medical staff come over and start me on a two week vacation."

Look, I'm not looking to fight here, all I'm saying is the SJ saw a really big man who was about to squash your boy, and he took action to keep him alive. It was wrong, but I think it was well intentioned.

That being said, TD or not, I'd be OK with Tom taking even more hits...

One thing's for sure, I don't see a loss in your season, much less the regular season.

Good luck and kudos to your owner for getting the best people in the most important places.

You don't ahve to play whistle to understand playing until the whistle blows.

I don't think I've ever seen a whistle blown BEFORE a player is even touched, for ANY purpose, unless he gave himself up, or was sliding or whatever, or was ACTUALLY out of bounds.

What you're suggesting makes very little sense. What makes more sense is that the ref screwed up, plain and simple. Because he's human.

Any idiot with eyes could see that Keenum was concussed. I didn't "ask him" anything, but I could see he was concussed. I don't know if the NFL issued any mandates to refs after the Keenum fiasco, but would it surprise you if they did? A "common ****ing sense is he maybe concussed" check? It wouldn't surprise me at all.

That aside, Steratore has reffed like 30 games Brady has been in, I'm sure. You think he and Brady know each other better than Tyrod Taylor? Does that factor in? yeah, probably. Human element.

Maybe, but if so it's stupid, and I disapprove of that for Brady or for ANY OTHER NFL player, because the whistle does NOT blow until the play if ****ing over.

You're kidding? Our offense is now Brady, Gronk, and a litany of nobodies. I don't give them a 50/50 chance in Denver next week, which is ****ing annoying because if we were healthy then we'd do just fine against them.

The NFL is a war of attrition, and the Patriots are losing it because ONE SPOT, receiver, is getting pummeled. Of our top 4 pass-catching threats (Gronk, Edelman, Amendola, Lewis), we're likely to be playing with only 1 of them. Any ONE player can be eliminated if there is nothing else to worry about.

And, I don't saying that I welcome that beaten up team to Denver this week. That being said, it will be interesting since neither of us appears to believe our team will win.

I'd like to say that with this Denver defense... Thomas and Sanders (back at WR), Daniels and Davis at TE, with Lattimer in the mix... and Hillman and CJ healthy, this team should be able to come up with a game plan with Brock that takes advantage of the game.

I'm just not there yet.

Interesting.

Quote:
The first blown call was the inadvertent whistle by line judge Gary Arthur. As noted by Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, Arthur has just recently returned from suffering a broken collarbone, broken ribs and a collapsed lung in a sideline collision during a Week One game. On Monday night, Arthur nearly collided with Bills coach Rex Ryan on the sideline just before he blew the whistle. It wouldn’t be surprising if Arthur is a little skittish about sideline collisions after the injuries he suffered, and he blew the whistle as soon as he sensed he was about to run into someone on the sideline.

Patriots OLine is back, thank God, though some of what the Patriots are doing with them makes no damn sense to me. Cannon sucks at tackle, but if they have to play him at tackle, put Vollmer on the LEFT and Cannon on the RIGHT. Cannon on the left side sucked, got Brady killed, and resulted in the holding call that negated a big pass play.

Otherwise, I just find it hard to see how our crippled offense moves the ball well against a very good Denver defense. As I said, we're down 3 of our top 4 receiving threats, assuming Amendola is out, as seems likely even if it's "only" a sprained MCL or whatever.

Pats have historically been fine against Wade Phillips defenses. Moreso than Rex Ryan's. If we had our full range of guys, I'd expect to win. That holds true in the playoffs also, so if Edelman/Amendola are back, and we don't lose other guys int he meantime, then I'm fine playing Denver at Foxboro or Mile High.

But our defense is very good, and Jaime Collins will be back for the Denver game, which is a big boost. I imagine it will be low-scoring as the Denver offense isn't likely to light it up on us.
