The mystery about who/how they were in life is the great mystery, and you're absolutely right in that "who knows"... but I honestly dont think that Leonidas as Butler portrayed him was that far off, I mean, the lifestyles and people back then were so savage that we would hardly recognize them as human half the time, I'm sure you'd agree.

"The baby looks slightly deformed? off the cliff it goes!"... these people were born and raised in a world where ANY sign of weakness was instant death... not trying to disagree just to look smart or be an ass, but when you really think about the ancient world... those people were hard as HELL, even our old 17-1800's ancestors would be like "oh my lands, how did those people ever live long enough to create a new generation, it was pure death 24/7".

In my world, Achilles was every bit the dynamic athlete and swordsmith he was in "Troy"... he just wasnt some handsome american blonde like Pitt.

Loved this show and re watched it on Netflix

I had forgot how much I enjoyed this show. Agree with everyone that towards the end Liam did a helluva job as Spartacus.

Will always wonder about the show if Andy had managed to beat cancer.

People from ancient times were certainly hardened, but we have advantages in our era in modern nutrition and weighlifting.

How big do you think guys like Leonidas and Achilles would have been in BC times?

Leonidas and Achilles would've looked something like Clay Guida or any other similar sized UFC fighter... 5'7 to 6'0 max and shredded due to their lifestyle and meager diet.

I dont think those old Greek statues are lies, they had the 6 packs, they were lean due to their low fat diets, tons of carbs through beans and wheat etc, but depending on how close to the coast they were they also had excellent seafood protein.

The biggest problem I have with how tv portrays the ancient world is showing some huge musclebound guy... it just didnt look like that, those buff Conan (God bless that movie I dont even care, where is the supposed new one?) looks are the result of modern training, as most of us know.

Yeah. They were half as tall because they ate like balls. And they wouldn't be epic ripped because of weight regimens. But they would have kicked the **** out of Gerrard Butler.

Julius Ceasar? I feel like that's a bit of a reach.. I like the character, though.

He just had a non-lethal bout with Gannicus and promised a rematch. I fear that's foreshadowing for a later date.

Who am I kidding? I know all these ****ers are going to die anyway..

It takes til the end of season 3 for him to finally get the sparticus role down.

Andy would have become a huge tv star if he had not passed.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Just wrapped up the entire series..

That goodbye between Agron and Nasir (when Agron left to fight with Crixus) was pretty rough. Almost caught a thug shedding a tear on that one. I was happy to see Agron return and, ultimately, pass through the mountains with Nasir and the rest of the free people.

One thing I didn't understand was, on the field of the final battle, when Castus got cut down and said "would that I could have been you for just one day". It seemed as though he was speaking to Nasir, but that wouldn't really make much sense (unless he actually had a hard on for Agron that whole time) and it was muddied by the fact that Agron was standing right behind Nasir. I'm assuming he was saying he'd longed for a love similar to what the two shared, is that correct?

Crixus finally received his glorious death in battle. He was really pissing me off near the end but I hated to see him have his chance at the gates of Rome robbed by a sneak attack from that little twerp from the rear.

Speaking of, he raped Julius Ceasar. Holy balls.

The ending was about as fitting as one could hope. I knew that most would die; it was just a matter of how and when. Gannicus, the ****ing beast, back in the arena with Oenamaus (sp?) at his side, Agron and Nasir together, Lugo burning and screaming "**** the Romans" to his last breath, and Spartacus finally reuniting with his wife in the afterlife.

Ah, what a show. I'll miss it.

It was badass. I really hope the creator's next show fizzles out and they can somehow talk him into continuing the story of the creation of the Triumvirate (Pompey, Caesar, and Crassus)

I didn't quite understand Gannicus's death. He wanted to die a gladiator's death but eventually accepted his leadership role.. only to be crucified except he's shown at peace because of this??

Pretty much. It was essentially, "if Nasir loved me as much as he does you"

I was actually really disappointed in Crixus's death. He just sort of stands there and then gets lanced in the back.. I was expecting something more epic like Boromir's death in Lord of the Rings..

I thought the "2nd" season (Vengeance) was drawn out and was mostly terrible. War of the Damned was quite excellent though. Didn't buy into the new actor until this season either.
