Unless his recovery time is terrible, I doubt Mays goes on the PUP.
His cap hit is $4,000,000 next year. He'd have to play really well to earn that if he were healthy. He knows that, so it's in his best interest to try to play, as well as KC's. If he goes to PUP, you take a $1,000,000 hit to next year's cap for absolutely nothing. If you keep him, you're taking a $4,000,000 cap hit for an unproven player on your team. If his recovery time is reasonable, he'll make the 53, if not, I'll bet they take the $2,000,000 dead money hit this year. No idea what an injury settlement would cost. Could be completely wrong though, I'm no cap guru. I might completely misunderstand the whole contact. |
