MJD: Matt Schaub can get Raiders to Super Bowl

Maurice Jones-Drew conceded Wednesday that several teams believed he didn't have much left in the tank.

During an interview on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio, the running back said his final choices -- among eight teams displaying interest -- came down to the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders.

MJD chose the team least likely to get him to his first playoff appearance since 2007.

One reason Jones-Drew signed a three-year, $7.5 million contract in Oakland was to return to where he grew up and play for a Raiders team he rooted for as a fan.

MJD said the Raiders are in "win-now" mode, and he believes signal-caller Matt Schaub can take them to the Super Bowl.

"You can definitely (make the Super Bowl with Matt Schaub at quarterback)," Jones-Drew said. "(Schaub) has something to prove this year. ... I know Matt Schaub is a guy who can lead us."

Of course, the other finalists on his list have quarterbacks named Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady, who have won Super Bowls.

We discussed on the "Around The League Podcast" how it was interesting to see the veteran running back choose Oakland over a place where he'd have a better chance to make the playoffs.

MJD said he eschewed a chance to join the Steelers or Patriots to return home -- the likely larger contract offer probably didn't hurt either.

Saying things like this probably made his suitors think his tank wasn't the only thing running on empty. Geez

The big difference between the two is that A.Smith actually performs in the post season. Cassel took a post season shit with: 9 for 18 , 70 yards, 50.0%, 0 TD, 3 int , 20.4 pass rating.

Cassel 2010 regular +post season:

3386 Pass yds + 131 rush yds = 3517, 27 TD 10 INT

vs

Smith 2013 regular + post season:

3691 Pass yds + 488 rush yds = 4179 , 27 TD 7 INT

Better check again. I bet you'll find Alex had the better numbers and his "better D" shit itself in the playoffs. Matt Cassel is not in the same league as Alex Smith in any way. However he is in the same league as Matt Schaub when it comes to facing a blitz. Both shit themselves silly...

Getting the Faid to a super bowl will not change your life MJD. But the checks will cash the same.

The history part is right, ancient history. If you include Gannon, who wasn't washed up, just merely over looked by the Chiefs, I guess it could be somewhat recent history. Plunkett is really the only reclamation project that ever yielded results at the QB spot.

Eh, Gannon was a system QB who took care of the ball and was playing in a favorable dink and dunk offense. You could have subbed a lot of QBs in for him under Gruden for those couple of years.
