Browns interested in Eric Berry?
Not sure what to think.
In otheR reporting it sounds like Thomas and Browns are not going to work out a deal, or might just be Dorsey sending a message to the Thomas camp. https://nfltraderumors.co/browns-int...-s-eric-berry/ Note: Seeing discussion in Mega thread. I would be happy if we Osweilered him to the Browns, let alone if we got anything in return

Looks like a trade post June would save a lot. Before that nope.

Chiefs eat $12 million in dead money with a Berry trade. Only $4.5 million cap savings.
Dorsey is trying to kill our ability to pay players. There isn't a player they would offer up to make a trade worthwhile, let alone a high enough pick.... Dorsey is trolling the Chiefs hard at this point. Watch him sign Conley too..... |

The Chiefs aren’t hurting for cap space. To get anything back in order to get out of this Berry deal would be fantastic, especially in 2020 when we need the money most. That heel ain’t miraculously better now. It will flame up. |

You don't just take "anything" to accrue that amount of dead money. We have Houston's $7 million dead money already. Guys like Hill and Jones need to get paid.

Does the signing bonus dead cap transfer over? I don't think it does. I think the Chiefs absorb it and the browns can basically have him at 4 years, $48m with no prorated signing bonus to latch onto that (maybe even less because the Chiefs would absorb some of the 2019...?). Which makes it really really easy for them to restructure. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Not this year but substantially more next year.
If they cut him pre-June 1, they get 1.5M in cap and 15M in 2019 dead money. If they cut him post-June 1, they get $7M in cap, $8M in 2019 dead money, and $7M in 2020 dead money. If they trade him, my understanding is that the $3.5M in guarantees goes with him, making the dead cap hit in 2019 about 12M, the cap space just over 4M, and there's nothing left in 2020. |

That money is probably already ‘dead’, with or without Berry. Unless you trust that he’s going to play a full healthy season. |

Ok so let's say he does get traded, who the hell would replace him exactly? We already need corners and then we'd need another safety. Are yall really prepared to have a secondary including Honey Badger and a bunch of rookies? REALLY? With Earl Thomas off the table, the only decent safety standing looks to be Cliton-Dix. If he gets signed, then it would be a major risk to let Eric go imo. Because as much as the hounds are baying for his blood, a healthy Berry alongside Tyrann would be the best safety duo In the league, period. Tyrann with Adderley or Rapp would be a complete mystery and a big gamble which could lead to disaster If the rookie doesn't work out. Sorensen or Murray would be equally as worrying too.
