You really think Prewitt and McKinney will slide to the 3rd?

McKinney looks like the first half of the 2nd, Prewitt probably the middle/back of the 2nd. Granted, I've not done nearly as much poking around in the 2nd and 3rd rounds but that sure seems late. Hell, I figured Miller was probably a top of the 3rd guy in his own right.

Presuming we end up in the 10-12ish range, I'd go with Devante Parker and then either Bud Dupree or Eli Harold.

In this draft, I would totally be down for the following rebuild project:

Trade down with first pick for a second rounder plus a first next year.
Trade down with second pick for a second rounder plus a first/second rounder next year.
The second round is going to be thick with NFL ready talent at the positions we need: OL, Pass rusher, and WR.

The best part? Boom. 5 picks in the top 64 next year, including 3/4 first round picks.

Prewitt was lighter than everyone expected. McKinney's 40 slower than everyone expected and Miller was lighter as well. They'll all drop because of that. (Though McKinney's vertical was insane at 40.5" and his 40 number was more likely due to a bad start or something.)

S, ILB, OG is third round unless you are a consensus top guy.

A lot of guys had Gabe Jackson and Larry Warford as the top offensive guards in their respective drafts (I did anyway), and John Miller is very reminiscent of both of those players but, at least at the Combine, he was lighter by about 30 pounds than either of those guys. (Most likely to try and up his speed/burst numbers as he looked about 20/30 pounds heavier during the season). Both Jackson and Warford were third round picks.

I just hate the first round talent this year. Love the 2/3/4/5/6 talent, but the first is rather lackluster.

There's really nobody I'd trade up for. Problem is, it's likely going to be hard to trade down and get decent value out of the trade.

I personally think that the Chiefs are going to get stuck with a BPA Decision Lens grab that is regardless of position.

Fortunately, the Chiefs do have extras in the third and fifth (purportedly). I'd love to get another second and third in this draft though. I think that they can get some good talent in those rounds at positions that will help build this team in the short term for a solid playoff run in 2015.

Isn't this to some degree because of your affinity for the OL?

I agree that the OL talent in this draft is more wide than deep; lots of depth in the draft but not a lot of upside. It's difficult to project any of the OL as true LTs, or even plus pass-blockers at RT.

But man, when I look at the pass-rushers and WRs available, it's really as good a class as you'll find on those fronts. In case you missed the events of yesterday, pass rusher just may be a need for us afterall. I think the interior DL class could potentially be very good as well.

The DB and TE groups are as bad as I've seen in a long time, I'll give you that. That being said, I can't recall the last time I saw a strong DB group that actually played to that pedigree. I'm starting to think that defensive backs are harder to project than any position group on the board. At this point, I'd just get the best secondary coach I can hire and target measurables because I'm done trying to figure out what the hell to look for in a DB.

I don't necessarily disagree with you regarding a trade up, but only because I think you have will have talent on the board at 18 that would be gone in the top 10 picks in most drafts. I'm not sure that I'd trade up because I do think this draft goes about 20 deep with guys that I'd have no problem taking in the first round (and guys like Landon Collins that I think other teams are dumb enough to take ahead of us).

JMO, but I would use the pick from 10-15 to draft La'El Collins, who should be there.
Then I would try to trade down a few spots with our original pick. Either way I would take Bud Dupree and not look back. If he's gone I go Nate Orchard.

Then fill the WR position in Rd 2 with agholor or hardy. Rd 3 I would attack ILB and DB.

Eh, I like what Dorsey's doing right now and I hope he stays with it - be very wary of FAs (not just at WR - everywhere). I haven't looked into the FA market a great deal mostly because I hope the Chiefs let it sort itself out and then try to find a solid #2 option after the dust settles.

As for the draft, I think White has the most upside but Cooper is an amazing fit for a Reid offense. I absolutely love how smooth and intelligent that kid is. Great agility, good burst, just a perfect fit for this offense. I also really like Parker's potential in this offense but he's not as advanced as Cooper. Another guy that will be able to get separation and seems to have very good hands.

If those 3 aren't there, don't take a WR in the first. Strong is just a Bowe clone; Smith won't use him. DGB has taken me awhile to figure out but I think I know where I stand on him - he'll be very good somewhere but it wouldn't ever be here. It just occurred to me last week that the guy he reminds me of is Marques Colston. Big, rangy guy who's more fast than quick; terrible route runner and erratic hands (will follow an amazing catch with a routine drop). I had talked myself into him as a good pick for the Chiefs but reversed gears - I just don't see him as a fit for this offense and this QB. Smith won't loft those 40 yard jump balls for him to go get. And ultimately, DGB doesn't quite know how to use his body on the shorter routes to screen off next-level defenders. He got away with it at the college level because he's just so much bigger than the guys he's going against but in the pros I don't think he'd have that kind of success early.

With the possibility of getting a guy like Devin Smith or Nelson Agholor in the 2nd (Perriman probably wouldn't last to the back of 2), I'm steering away from a first round WR unless one of those first 3 are available. Even guys like Lockett, Coates and Hardy may see the third, Diggs and Conley even beyond that. There's so much talent in this draft that I don't like the idea of reaching for a WR in the first.

And ultimately, I think this offense will work damn well with nothing more than Kelce and 3 #2 WRs. We may not be able to get a #1 in here, but Smith's strengths are his intelligence and his willingness/ability to survey the field. If the Chiefs can get Smith and Hardy to go with Wilson, DAT and Rodgers - Reid can absolutely wreck shit with that and Smith's smart enough to make it work. We're still not going to go gung-ho downfield, but with that much quickness on the field, secondaries have to respect sideline to sideline from the LOS out to about 25 yards. Reid will have a field day with that kind of freedom.

The obvious issue is the youth/inexperience. At that point, I tell Alex Smith that he got his security because of his ability to lead and manage an offense - if you also need to surround him with expensive veteran WRs, then he's not doing you much good. I honestly think Smith is as equipped as any QB in football to help transition in a young WR group.

I'm not crazy about dgb, but it is what it is.

I'd prefer bowe stay at a Lower salary as if it's true they view him as a short route only wr, he seems to perfectly fit with the current qb. If not, Maclin would be a good replacement.
