ESPN Outside the Lines Report: Goodell went easy on Spygate

It's been all over ESPN Radio all morning. Report says that Goodell threw the book at Brady because he gave them a break on Spygate.

I didn't hear it all, but they alleged that the NFL destroyed evidence because they videoed a shitton of practices and Goodell wanted to limit the exposure to a few games. They said that Belichick even admitted to doing like 40 games but Goodell covered it up.

A couple other points that were brought up that were interesting was that Martz came out and said Goodell asked him to put out a statement saying he was satisfied with the investigation for the good of the league and he is absolutely not.

Also, the reporter said that former Pat players admitted to the Pats sending a low level guy to the other lockerroom while they were warming up to steal the scripted plays that most teams start with.

I haven't seen the piece, but a lot of the things this reporter spouted off were pretty damning. Usually OTL is pretty good, but this had a lot of conspiracy theory tone to it.

Has anyone read it?

ESPN is, and has been, Goodell's bitch from the get-go. They're about as impartial as Baghdad Bob.

Goodell gets ****ed in court and loses his Deflategate case, releases this bullshit through ESPN to try to save face, and then goes on the radio to say he wants "the focus to be on football".

And all the uneducated Patriot-hating lapdog fans of other teams eat this shit up as if it's Gospel.

Those investigators hadn't come up empty: Inside a room accessible only to Belichick and a few others, they found a library of scouting material containing videotapes of opponents' signals, with detailed notes matching signals to plays for many teams going back seven seasons. Among them were handwritten diagrams of the defensive signals of the Pittsburgh Steelers, including the notes used in the January 2002 AFC Championship Game won by the Patriots 24-17. Yet almost as quickly as the tapes and notes were found, they were destroyed, on Goodell's orders: League executives stomped the tapes into pieces and shredded the papers inside a Gillette Stadium conference room.
Pretty much what I said all along. Goodell covered up Spygate the best he could to protect "the shield" (his job) ... and everyone literally forgot about it. It was done. No one even cared anymore. He played it wonderfully. And then the Patriots had to be the Patriots again ...

Now, Goodell clearly isn't going to be fired or resign. And if he did, he'd get a giant severance package where he'd have to sign confidentiality agreements ...

but I hope Kraft keeps pushing Goodell to the point of him going all Jose Canseco on that piece of shit franchise ... but this will never happen. Wishful thinking.

Wait, what? This is what Spygate was. What's the covered up part? Did you think they taped signals and then didn't watch the tape, or take notes?

There's nothing new here at all.

I was listening to the Dan Patrick show awhile ago and Tony Dungy was talking about how he and Manning would have secret meetings in the halls @Foxboro because they believed the locker room was bugged....

Read the article at Espn. It shits all over everything they have accomplished.

Right, by mentioning:

1. Spygate, which has been covered plenty over the years. I assume everyone here knows that stealing signals is LEGAL. The NFL only restricted HOW you steal the signals. Hard for me to get excited about.

2. warm Gatorade. Surprised we haven't lost another first round pick for that one.

3. rumors of bugs in locker rooms. Teams swept for bugs. Never found.

4. Dumpster diving for coaches notes, etc. Jimmy Johnson talked about how his teams used to do this.

5. A bunch of other rumors that have literally no support at all.

The one thing it all might prove more than anything else is that the Patriots and Belichick are seriously in their opponent's heads.

Oh, and that the NFL has got their PR machine in full swing here to try to redirect the attention from Goodell's jackassery.

What about Martz's insistence that the memo he gave to Goodell stating that he was satisfied with the NFL's investigation was doctored and bs? What about employees wearing ESPN and Kraft productions tags to get them into restricted space? Hey man, there is simply too much there. If it smells like a rat..... I guess it could be a turd, but either way, it's not good.
