Chiefs moves this off-season (So far)

I normally like individual threads for discussion topics, but I've been quite busy over the past few weeks and haven't kept up on all the releases, signings?, etc.

Does anyone have a list we can just post in this thread to see what has happened so far?

I think we have to attack this with the draft.
Harris would be intriguing, but we wouldn't offer him much in terms of compensation.

I think McKinnon comes back on a smaller deal. It sucks for him not getting "paid", but such is the life of an NFL RB.

He spent 6 years as a wide receiver with Andy in Philadelphia. He was then an assistant coach under Andy in 2009 and has been WR coach for college team. I guess you don't have to have played the position to coach it.

I don't think you can get him on a much smaller deal. He made $1.035M salary and $152.5K on a roster bonus. I think the minimum is a little over $1.1M.

$3M vet exception is likely earmarked for Jet.

The whole Jones extension silence is puzzling. It sounds like it's a done deal and Chris is a happy camper. You'd think, under normal circumstances, we would have heard something about the deal and how much money was saved. But we all know Veach isn't a normal guy, so it may be a way to bargain down the asking price of a couple of players.

Exactly this. They "do" their big deals right before training camp. In all reality, those deals are done well ahead of time. If the team has $40M in cap space, they're going to have a hard time negotiating.

Patience. All is coming.

And I have a hard time seeing the team that is going to dethrone a healthy Chiefs team.

Um, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but we don't necessarily have to get better at DT. We just can't fall back.

Check it out: is there a team in the AFC-W that boasts a top-5 running game? Maaaaaybe LVR with Josh Jacobs, but they haven't even been using him that way under McD.

Is there a legit AFC champion contender with a top-5 running game? BUF, no. CIN, no. JAX? Possible, but Doug Pederson isn't known for running the crap out of the ball either.

In the NFC all I see is either SF or PHI. And our defense handled both their run games very well with the likes of Nnadi, Saunders, Turk and Williams at DT.

I don't think KC necessarily has to get better with their DTs in 2023, just can't be worse. Am I crazy?

To clarify my earlier defensive tackle statement. I was not stating that defensive tackles have to be better from 2022’s roster. I am saying we have to be better than what we currently have on roster right now. We have four DTs and two of them were signed on Futures contracts. Not counting Chris Jones, that is not a strong defensive tackle lineup.

gotcha. My misunderstanding. And yeah, we do need to get at least one more DT from somewhere. Man, I wish we'd found a way to keep Khalen. I liked that guy.

It would have been nice to be able to keep Khalen Saunders at a team friendly contract.

The Saints did the voidable year contract to be able to pay more and kick the can down the road again as-far-as Cap dollars. It is a 3-year playing contract with an additional 3 voidable years added on. So far Brett Veach has not wanted to play that game. Saints have to do that to keep a team on the field.

Something else to consider about a Khalen Saunders long term contract. Saunders played for KC for four seasons and this year was his only season he did not miss games. In 2020 he played 3 games. In 2021 he played 7 games.

Oh, I get it, from a purely rationally POV. But he made some nice plays for us, and well, he was just fun to watch, especially when he got up to full speed. Reminded me a little of the Tasmanian Devil.
