You didn't think the Cavs were a contender last year

Because the Warriors were/are the ultimate mega team, yeah. They broke the Jordan Bulls record.

I definitely don't have a problem with the way the Warriors were built (outside of the Durant signing) because they drafted their stars. That is ok. Same thing with the Spurs.

I didn't like it when Lebron went to Miami, don't like that Durant left OKC, and don't like all these veterans being released going to the 2 top teams.

It makes it no fun to watch except the Finals I guess.

I'd say 2 teams have a punchers chance besides the two obvious ones

Cleveland
Golden State

big gap

Spurs
Rockets

if we go by Phil Jackson's 40 before 20 theory of course. Celtics would be in there too if they went all in to win now at the trade deadline but they stood pat and they don't have enough as is.

I love the NBA but have hardly paid attention this year because what is the point of watching the regular season. They need to make whole sale changes to get people interested again and stop all the mega teams. It kills the league IMHO.

In the East no one is going to challenge the Cavs. My team the Celtics may win 1 game if they face them but that is it. boring..

In the West I only really see the Spurs as the only team that could have a shot at beating GS.

Not like this though where the top players are colluding with each other to team up.

I also feel like some teams are intentionally helping out other teams by dumping veteran players. I don't get that why not just hold onto to them until the regular season is over.

The NBA has always been top heavy. Just the nature of having star players. Although I've always said I wish someone would at least step up in the East to challenge LeBron. Other than that 3-4 year run by the Celtics, LeBron has very rarely been challenged. Jordan had to face the Knicks, Cavs, and Pacers. Bird had to face some truly great Sixers teams, and then later the Pistons.

The closest comparison would probably be the 80's Lakers. They weren't challenged much, but the Rockets had a couple good teams get through, and late in the Magic/Kareem era, the Blazers were a really good team too. The Jazz had Stockton and Malone too. Right now I can't think of an Eastern Conference team that would at least compare to that group.

Sure but those teams were built not created by players colluding together to create mega teams.

I just wish they could come up with a system to not allow that to happen and spread out the competitive balance. And shorten the regular season to make it intriguing and worth to watch.

As you noted, Golden State put their team together through the draft (outside of Durant). The Spurs did as well, outside of Aldridge.
