The last three miles back to the finish line had lots of small hills, and pretty deep sand. This part was pretty tough with the sand. My knees felt bad for about a week after this race.

Great pics Rainman, I couldn't imagine dealing with that deep sand.
It looked awesome though. |

It looks like he ran this race on Mars. Well, except for the people and the vegetation.

Some of the people were kind of weird looking.

Awesome scenery for sure, but I cant think of a more effective form of torture than long distance running

I ran the Charleston Half Marathon today, and in a first (for a flat race), I ran the second half faster than the first half. In fact, the last 6.2 miles ended up being the fastest 10K I've run in the past year. That may say more bad things about my top speed than about my distance running.
It was one of my most consistent runs as well. The weather was perfect and course was pancake flat, so I didn't hit my wall around Mile 10, and just kept rolling. Pace by Mile: Mile Time 1 - 10:00 (jockeying for position with lots of people) 2 - 9:27 3 - 9:26 4 - 9:25 5 - 9:19 6 - 9:21 7 - 9:13 8 - 9:26 9 - 9:09 10 - 9:08 11 - 9:21 12 - 9:31 13 - 9:05 13.2 - 8:26 (My race was a little long, likely due to lots of weaving between people in the early miles.)

I've tentatively targeted the Summit Challenge in Hot Springs, just because I've hear that's a nice area: https://www.halfmarathons.net/arkans...rathon-10k-5k/. Do you know anything about that one? The Little Rock one would be interesting because the t-shirt would be recognizable, and that's a factor for me as I collect them. It looks like it's got a lot of little ups and downs, which isn't my strength. I've also considered the Fayetteville Half just because it would be convenient to the family in southern Missouri. Know anything about it?

Not familiar with either race. That Summit challenge looks interesting. The Fayetteville race looks pretty flat comparably. Either one would be fun it looks like. |

Rain Man, how young are you? Your posts are very aspiring!
On a side note; I set a personal goal to run 1k miles this year. I have 942 miles to go.

And I'm about to turn 55, which should help me a lot in my age standings. The 55-59 group is slower than the 50-54 group.
