I've heard the exact opposite. And the first couple Google results I see seem to support that:

You really need to learn how to read. That articles states:

However, acetaminophen carries a warning against taking it while drinking more than three alcoholic drinks a day. This is because excessive alcohol consumption damages the liver, and acetaminophen may not be safe for those whose livers are impaired.

Acetaminophen Toxicity

Acetaminophen has an excellent safety profile when administered in proper therapeutic doses, but hepatotoxicity can occur with misuse and overdose. In the United States, acetaminophen toxicity has replaced viral hepatitis as the most common cause of acute hepatic failure and is the second most common cause of liver failure requiring transplantation.

In January 2014, the FDA issued a statement that combination prescription pain relievers that contain more than 325 mg of acetaminophen per tablet, capsule, or other dosage unit should no longer be prescribed because of a risk of liver damage. Cases of severe liver injury have been reported in patients who took more than the prescribed dose of an acetaminophen-containing product in a 24-hour period, took two or more acetaminophen-containing products simultaneously, or combined alcohol with acetaminophen products.[1, 2]

Pretty much this. Its not complicated, if you want to avoid a hangover, you need water. Lots of water. Go to bed full of water. If you wake up to pee, drink more water before going back to bed. If you have a hangover, then you failed to drink enough water. If you don't like drinking that much water, fine then drink juice, gatorade, even a diet soda is probably better than nothing.

Drinking lots of alcohol leads to very rapid dehydration, and your body is going to steal water from the organs to keep going, including from your brain. Thats where the hangover comes in. Drink a shitton of water, and your body will have all the water it needs to process and flush out that alcohol. If you really go on an insane alcohol binge, you might not be able to drink enough water to avoid a hangover entirely, but you can at least make it less painful.

Vitamin pills and "hangover cures" (which all advise you to drink lots of water in the instructions. Gee, I wonder why) are all mostly just snake oil.

I read the story just fine. Especially the important sections from the article which you omitted, before and after the part you quoted:

Quote:
In general, for mild pain, the safest pain reliever for older adults is acetaminophen, or Tylenol.

[...]

Still, medical research has shown acetaminophen can be a safe and effective pain reliever even for those with chronic liver disease, as long as the person taking it doesn't take more than 2 grams a day, half the usual allowable dose. Of course it's wisest to do so under medical supervision.

Unfortunately, aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen, are not necessarily any safer. People who drink a lot also tend to have gastritis (inflammation of the stomach's lining), since alcohol irritates the digestive tract. Heavy drinkers are hence at risk for ulcers and internal bleeding, which aspirin and ibuprofen can make much worse.
The only time Acetaminophen could be more dangerous is at really high dosages. Better explained here:

Quote:
The extent to which there may be a problem related to alcohol use depends largely on how heavily one drinks alcohol. For someone who occasionally enjoys one or two drinks / beers / glasses of wine, there is no additional risk when using any of these three over-the-counter pain relievers.
On the other hand, for someone who is an alcoholic (drinking two or more drinks per day every day or nearly every day), the risks start to increase.
If the alcoholism leads to liver disease (cirrhosis) and varicose veins in the esophagus (esophageal varices), taking aspirin or ibuprofen may increase the likelihood of bleeding from the varices or may increase the severity of the bleeding because both (especially aspirin) make the platelets (clotting cells in the blood) work less effectively.

Also, if the alcoholism leads to stomach irritation (gastritis) or stomach ulcers, both ibuprofen and aspirin can increase the irritation and bleeding because both ibuprofen and aspirin interfere with making a natural chemical (prostaglandin) that protects the lining of the stomach from its own acids.

Acetaminophen, in normal doses, is the least risky. It does not increase bleeding or irritate the stomach.

In overdose, acetaminophen can cause serious liver damage that can be fatal in some people. Because heavy alcohol use damages the liver, many people – including many doctors – assume that acetaminophen and alcohol together cause more liver damage or that a person with alcoholic liver damage cannot take acetaminophen. This is an area of some controversy among liver specialists and toxicologists.

Fish- You are wrong. When getting resources for a medical issue you should use actual medical resources.

http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/neuro..._headache.html

Here's some advice on what to do after an evening of "overdoing it":
  • Avoid further alcohol ("hair of the dog") - this will only increase your misery.
  • Avoid further dehydration by consciously working yourself to keep down liquids (other than alcohol!) - water, chicken soup, Gatorade - whatever works for you.
  • Avoid acetaminophen (Tylenol) at all costs-it can over-tax your already hard-working liver, leading to dangerous swelling or even liver failure.
  • Avoid unpalatable "recipes" combining such ingredients as eggs, raw fish, Tabasco, and sausage. You wouldn't eat like that when you are at your best, so what makes you think you'll stomach it when you're hungover?
The very best cure for a hangover? Don't drink. The second best? Time.

Stay hydrated and avoid too much sugar.

In the old days the monks would drink a glass of water with each pint of Ale.

That's why I drink Bud Light. It has the water and beer in the same can!

Don't mix booze and don't drink more than your tiny, ginger body can handle. You'll be fine.
A couple of Saturdays ago I drank half of a 1.75 liter bottle of Sailor Jerry rum and, I don't know, several(?) shots of Patron. We all passed out about 4 AM and a lot of the tequila was gone so I don't know exactly how much I drank. The next day I drank water and had a big brunch. Pigs-in-a-blanket made with breakfast sausage (and pan fried in the sausage grease instead of baking) a frittata and some fruit. Good as new.

I hear what you're saying. For me it's about convenience.

I also don't like the strong tastes of double IPA's. If I am going to drink for taste I like wine.

Like everyone else who has chimed in, staying hydrated is the key.

It's been a LONG time. Kids don't understand "daddy is hungover". However, when I did drink to excess, I tried not to sleep until I could salivate. That and tons of water.
