There's just so little actual tournament caliber talent on this roster and recent days have only made that more apparent. Barnett and occasionally Phillips are the only guys you could see making an impact in March. And MPJ, as good as he appears to be, isn't that kind of Lonzo Ball, unique transformational player. He's a great player in his own right (Durant?) but not a force multiplier that sees all angles at all times like Lonzo does.

Let's say they keep Roberts, re-classify Porter, Martin keeps Smith and maybe snags Sarr.

So you have Barnett, Phillips, Puryear and slag from this roster (or whatever you would call a half-step up from slag with Hughes), then Porter, Porter, Roberts, Smith and Sarr as freshmen. Is that a tournament team?

1 -- Phillips, Roberts
2 -- Smith, Hughes, Walton
3 -- Porter Jr., Puryear
4 -- Barnett, Nikko
5 -- Porter, Sarr, Smith

Hell, I don't know. Freshman are just such funny animals. You just can't tell how they'll come together and there's so much turnover there that I don't know how we can know if it's a good risk to take re-classifying Porter. Then again, if we don't, he could develop a little more and turn himself into a 1 and done by the time he arrives in '18 (IF he arrives at all) so maybe it would be best to just do it and lock him down now.

I call that a pretty good start.

It is, but I think we have to be realistic about just how far away the prior team was and just how young the incoming players will be.

Maybe there's a JUCO power forward to be found somewhere and that would be nice to spell Barnett and provide some stability but where the team is really going to be lacking is veteran, experienced, quality guards. And those can cover for so many flaws.

10 more wins would be a minimum expectation, IMO. But that's still not a tournament team and finding 13-14 more wins is a longer shot than I think many realize.

Kinda needs some context.

I think we all know that staff salaries are a common battleground for head coaches. Is this competitive? Top 25% of power 5 teams? Better than that?

Need to know what everyone else is doing before that number means much.
