My thoughts on Pat

I was going to post this on another thread but it felt too long for a post so I turned it into a thread. Read it if you'd like or don't, I just woke up absolutely elated and needed to type this out. So many things to be ecstatic about here.

1. Two firsts and a 3rd is pretty damn cheap to move 17 spots imo. I mean, the Texans dont have a 2nd this or next year now or a first and they traveled less than we did. We still have 8 picks left and Dorsey has more than earned the trust of the fans that he can do some work with those.

2. We got our guy, plain and simple. You go through CP for the last month or so, and the vast majority were on the Mahomes bandwagon. It may be because of the fact his style is a polar opposite of Alex's which we've grown to despise. It may be the fact that he walks into the NFL and automatically has a top 5 arm in the league. It may be the fact that our situation is absolutely perfect for him to redshirt and work out the kinks that everyone is aware he has. Whatever it may be people were fascinated by this guy, and I for one as a Chiefs fan was full on expecting for another disappointment. Not this year, not this regime. We got our guy, after decades of waiting for a first round QB that would be worth it, we got him.

3. The most understated factor of this entire thing for me is the fact that I can finally enjoy watching Alex play QB for us because I know we at least have a future plan beyond him. Look, we all have our thoughts on the man. He's ultra-conservative, he takes too many sacks, he wont throw the ball past the first down marker or into the end zone, everyone has their own complaints about the guy and it's very very very warranted. But we've won. Think back to what it felt like on a weekly basis during the Herm era. The Pioli era. The GOT DAMN BRIAN DABOLL ERA. What would you have given to have a team to root for that consistently wins? Thats what Alex has brought to this team. Yeah you can give Andy, or Dorsey, or the defense, or even Toub the credit for most of the success over Alex during this time, but at the end of the day Alex was our QB that led the Chiefs resurgence into relevance and success.

Trust me, he pissed me off just as much as all of you, but I for one will enjoy his remaining year (maybe two) with KC and will be more than happy to be thankful for him once he passes the torch to Pat. He's brought wins for us, which brought us happiness. Wasn't always the prettiest, but thanks to him he's made me happy more Sundays than not, and as a football fan, I can be pleased with that. Thanks for your service Alex. Now go out there, win most of the remaining games you have left with us, recoup enough value so that we can ship you off to the Browns next year for a 1st, and enjoy the rest of your career, we'll take it from there.

It would surprise me not if Alex ends up having a stellar year. He may go gunslinger on us just because he knows his time at KC is probably about to end. The pressure will be off to just be a game manager since it's an all or nothing situation for him anyway. Plus he may want to showcase some stuff we're not used to seeing from him that would catch some other team's eye.

Best scenario I can come up with anyway.

I agree with this but Alex will ultimately be Alex. He doesn't want risk INT to disappoint the coach.

I said it in one of these threads that I can enjoy next season now because while watching Alex Smith now...I know that the Chiefs finally have their QBotF waiting to take over the reins. It's a beautiful day.

The great thing about Pat-- I fell in love with his tape before I ever realized he had this 60 MPH arm attached to him. I could tell he made some crazy impressive off-platform throws, but I never watched him and said, 'I want that rocket arm'. I genuinely just loved his ability to make any throw from any spot on the field, and to put stress on the defense with his ability to throw on the run, ala Aaron Rodgers/Brett Favre.

This is so awesome that it hasn't even really sunk in yet.

We moved up in the 1st round and drafted...

How can anyone watch the Gruden football camp on PM2 and not fall for this kid. He was very respectful, smart and wants to learn. Gruden could not believe some of the throws he can make. 65 yards sitting on his knees- 70 plus yards in the air? Crazy talent.

Alex now becomes important to his development- especially in the ball security areas and also learning to read defenses.

So pumped to watch this kid play- love his attitude. Chiefs finally have a Texas Gunslinger!!

It was "cheap"?

Lol. According to the Stuart chart, we paid equivalent to getting between 1&2, not 10.

I'm glad they did it but "cheap" ain't the word

I think Clark finally had enough about the Chiefs Not drafting a QB since Blackledge. The Curse is over.

We drafted a kid that threw for over 700 yards and 6 TD's in one game. let that sink in.

Agree with OP about Pat but totally disagree about smith.

http://www.espn.com/blog/kansas-city...-qb-alex-smith
“Let’s let the ball rip a little bit,’’ Nagy told Smith. “It’s practice. Let’s see what we can get away with and what we can’t get away with so when the games come we know where we’re at.’’

This ****ing pussy was afraid to let it rip in PRACTICE.

Why would anyone in this site want Alex to even start anymore. He's hated by everyone and cant throw past the line of scrimmage and is too boring and safe. I want the gun slinger who will take those exciting chances all the time (just like Farve). Put the kid in and let him learn. We have one of the best defenses anyway so he wont even have to score that many points.
