A Question About Socks

How many times do you think you can wear a pair of socks before they wear out?

I was putting my laundry away today, and I realized that I have a lot of sock. I'm not sure how many, but maybe 50 or 60 pairs, maybe even more. They've accumulated over the years since you don't really outgrow socks.

So for discussion purposes, let's assume that I own 52 pairs of socks and wear them equally. That means that each pair of socks is worn 7 times per year.

Given my age, I can probably expect to live another 33 years or so. If I never buy another pair of socks, that would mean that I'm going to wear each pair of socks 231 times.

Ignoring their current wear and tear, is 231 times feasible for a pair of socks? How long do they last? I honestly have no idea. Is it 50? 100? 200? 500?

Honestly, 231 seems like a lot since socks get wear and tear, and of course my socks aren't all brand new. I suspect that my sock buying days are not over, but I don't know what's reasonable in terms of sock life spans. What do you think?

I paid $14 per pair for nice thick athletic socks at Sports Authority. Really comfy though if you have to be on your feet for very long time. Bought about 4 pairs.

If that's a fashion rule then I gleefully break it all of the time. If I'm wearing a non-white, non-black sock then it is matching either my shoes or my shirt. Preferably both.

You people.
I am always low on socks.
If I go on vacation I just buy some socks to get me by.
And who sorts socks?
What a waste of time and energy. Socks go in the box and then I just try to mate them up as close as I can

Definitely 1 - 50. Considering I have about 50 pairs of socks, and just about every 3 years or so the socks start getting holes in them, I'd say they only last much less than 50 too.

These poll results are showing that we know very little about the socks that we wear every day. Either that, or there's a very wide variety in sock quality and we should be investing in high-quality socks if they're less than 10 times the price of cheap socks.

I would guess I have something like fifteen pairs of socks.

6 pair black dress socks
6 pair black sweat wicking ankle socks
3 pair winter boot socks

If it's a nice enough day, I'm wearing flip-flops if I can get away with it.

Be careful. If the heel starts wearing thin, I hear that they come and kill you.
